I have owned a Thule 1800 for several years. It has gone on several camping trips, at least 30 ski trips, many beach outings. It has been mounted on LX470, LX570, R500, X5, with no issues. Easily attaches to any crossbar.
Yakima is also good, and is no better or worse. As long as you get a type where the door opens on both sides, you are good. Also, the smooth surface versions cost more, but are quieter. I have been in a car with the rough plastic and did not like it....mine is the smooth silver finish.
I am going to take back my recommendation. Not because of the box but the combination of the box and the LX570.
The problem is that the cross bars cannot be brought forward as much as other SUVs and a long box will have two issues which I did not observe when I test mounted it.
1) the hatch door will hit the back of the box
2) when loaded, the bottom of the box will hit the antenna.
The box is max forward already.
I had to improvise and put blue tape on the hatch and I raised the the box by placing wood under the attachments.
Standard cargo boxes may be too long for the LX570 and they have minimal clearance unloaded and touch the antenna when loaded
Well thats a bummer. I am assuming our 2100 will be even worse. We only use the 100 series fro camping so had not tried it on the 570 as yet.
Another option is also a trailer hitch box which I run in conjunction with the roof box so the dogs have more place in the hatch area when we go camping. It is on a swing out arm so moves out of the way to open lower hatch.
I recently purchased the Thule Sonic XL and had no issues with installation or wind noise. We drove from NY to FL with no issues. A bit expensive, but as others have posted, the smooth surface does reduce wind noise.
