The less LX on the roads , the better it will be and resale value would be higher. I like to have unique car rather dime a dozen on the road. Lexus would not let their car models become obsolete.

The LX is a success for its intended audience, it's not an RX of course. The bigger issue I guess is which dealership is selling GLS for a 5k premium(lcis are selling for below sticker)?? The only vehicle I know could theoretically command that is the updated AMG GLS but that ain't no LX (no competitor for the German beast)

If you are paying over sticker for a Mercedes GL you are a fool. The GL and LX are both discounted roughly the same amount as a percentage off of sticker.

The market has spoken, Lexus should be more like Acura.

Does that mean Lexus should start producing vehicles with huge panel gaps, crappy transmissions, and of course the worlds most confusing dual display infotainment systems?

I`d buy one of those

Well clearly, as they aren't commanding 3-5k over MSRP and sales were only up 10.7% YOY.

Something needs to change.

Let the market sort it out. I would never own another GL. Total POS.

No transfer case + unibody = Not for me.

The diesel option looks interesting...problem is you've got to buy the rest of the car. Reliability is not in keeping with price nor close to that of the 200 series.

Still, MB fans will continue to buy MB's.

Meh.

For what its worth, the use of a unibody platform caters well to the needs of those who want luxury in the ride department. Very few people actually utilize the advantages of a body on truck platform of the LX, as the local nordstorm parking lot does not have anything that requires more then a unibody design. Plus with the unibody you get the added advantage of interior cargo volume, better fuel econ numbers (whatevr thats worth for a typical GLS buyer ehh), engine has to lug less weight, safety enhancements, platform sharing for reducing mfg costs.

I do think the GLS is offered with an offroad package which does have low-range gearbox and a locking center differential.

FWIW, the average GLS buyer or LX buyer typically owns the vehicle for max warranty (not saying everyone jsut the average). In that time frame, if your leasing or owning, reliability will play second fiddle unless the buyer has had some TERRRIBLE times with a marque.

As a previous GL owner I can attest that GL/GLS is indeed a POS. But sales figures in US tell a vastly different story: GLS sales in the latest month of April 2016: 2991; LX in the entire year of 2015: 3884. It makes me scratch my head.

I do not think that Lexus is in the business to beat MB. I will admit that I see more and more MB units and they have really marketed their brand well. The problem is most will never buy another after their first. The GL is an impressive vehicle but for dependability I will take my LX anyday.

I`d say thats a harsh and untrue extreme. If most people stopped buying a GL, MB would probably have stopped making them.

Have you seen the Starting Prices on both vehicles?

GLS450=$66K
LX570=$66K+1 Decently equipped CLA.

So where do I collect my prize for solving another puzzle?

I would say you are mislead and mistaken.

I have owned one and know others who did and all will agree with me.

You must travel with "special" people!

The GL(S) is significantly cheaper when in the 350/450 trims lightly optioned that the vast majority on dealer lots are. The GL is a lot cheaper to lease too because MB subvents the leases on these a good amount. Lexus doesn't really push leasing or try to move LX570 units as aggressively as MB does.
The GL is also a better alternative for a minivan (which is the main customer base for that vehicle), the third row is better than the LX and so is the cargo room due to the unibody/IRS. With the large percentage of leases for the GL, most are not too concerned with long term reliability
