When you press the rear hatch button on the bottom of the hatch, should it open automatically or do you have to lift?

Trying to figure out if it is broken or not.

 

I am new to the 2014 LX570 but since I just went over the manual for my new purchase I will comment on what I understand. With the hatch closed and standing outside the vehicle the wide button on the lip edge is only for unlock and the small round button for locking. I didn't read anywhere they the batch will open automatically by pressing any outside button on the vehicle.

The dedicated button on the dash and the button on the remote are the only ways to auto the batch to my understanding.
