Default 1999 LX470 , Adjusting low beam headlight vertically

Went to the Lexus dealership and asked a service mechanic how to adjust the low beam headlight vertically.

He said I needed to remove the blinker (in order to get to the low-beam vertical adjustment screw) by simply unscrewing the one screw on the top of the blinker, and slide it straight out. He said it can be "kind of tricky" to get it out.

Anyone know how to remove the blinker so I can adjust (raise) the direction of the low beam headlights?

Thanks,

BR

Default picture for this question

The red arrow shows the screw that the mechanic said I need to remove to pull the blinker out of the way of the low beam adjustment screw...

The green arrow is intended to show that the mechanic said to pull the blinker out "straight forward" after removing the screw.

The problem is that, after removing the screw, the blinker still won't come forward.

it's held in by a pressure clip. To adjust the headlights up and down to level with the road you dont need to remove anything. Just outside of the frame on your picture above, to the right there should be a philips/hex head long adjustment bolt. turn that and repeat for the other side, you're done.

Also, that's not your blinker but I'll let it slide

Thanks 1loudLX...but...the adjustment screw you are talking about isn't present in my LX 470 (1999). (I have seen it on some models, but not the 1999 LX470)

The mechanic at the dealership said I need to remove the "blinker" and the adjustment screw would be accessible.

I am aware of the long adjustment screw you are referring to....but that isn't present in my car....just to add additional confusion, I first went to a Toyota dealership, thinking the Land Cruiser adjustment and the LX 470 adjustment must be the same for the low beam headlights. Wrong...the images in the dealership manual shows holes above the head lights through which a phillips head screew driver can make the adjustment...but no such holes for this are seen on the LX 470.

So..I'm still looking for someone who knows how to remove the "blinker" (which is lateral to the low beam headlight)...so I can adjust the vertical aim of the low beam headlight on my 1999 LX 470.

Thanks,

pull it straight forward, not to the side away from the fender. It's really not complicated.

great...got it out,...

thanks for your help 1loudLX, and for the excellent reference (with pictures).

Now the problem is...the adjustment mechanism (i.e. toothed gear turned with phillips head screw driver) doesn't seem to be the vertical adjustor for the low beam....after turning it several, several turns...I am seeing a horizontal change ...but nothing vertical...

do you know where the vertical adjustment would be?

told ya so! Dealerships dont know sheet.

See the long bolt/screw that is running diagonally across the back of the light housing held on by that rusty strap? That is what you SHOULD have to adjust the lights, but since you dont, follow where that should go with a long screw driver and attempt to see if you can turn anything down there.
