Default Buying Lexus LX470 advice

Hi guys, I currently have a Lexus is250 and im looking to upgrade to an LX470 I know its a big jump but financially I should be good.
Things I want to know are what are the big issues with this truck ? an example is with my current Lexus is250 there are carbon build up issues and I knew that going into it.
So from owners, I would like to know big issues or even small issues that happen often or are known to happen to the LX470 and what is the Millage like. I am getting 2005+ model.

Thanks guys!!

mileage is horrible...you'll get around 12 or so in city driving, maybe 17 on highway. But it's extremely reliable and enjoyable vehicle.
there aren't really any widespread issues with the truck...maybe the AHC suspension I guess but even that is no big deal. Maintain it and you'll be fine.
the front seat leather wears out...i'm trying to find a good source for mine now at 148k.

I've never seen mileage as criteria for buying an LX or Land Cruiser.

Mileage is in keeping with the fact that it's a 3-ton truck, unloaded. Meh, not to mention duh.

the OP specifically asked about the mileage, hence my response.

it's a legitimate question, especially when gas prices are rising, and newer trucks have better mileage.

OK...wife's '01 gets 13-ish around town, 16-17 mpg steady-state cruising on the interstate. Premium gas may add another 0.5 to 1 mpg or so.

I'd submit that the price of gasoline has less effect on a high-end gas guzzler in the eyes of most current or prospective drivers.

I'd also ask which "newer" 3-ton trucks have better mileage, given the price of a used series 100?? I'd discount engines with the "variable displacement" features...I've driven a few and they're major PITA's.

well, here's some random picks:
18 Range Rover 22/28
18 Land Cruiser 13/18
18 Escalade 14/23
18 GL450 17/22
12 Escalade 14/18
10 Q7 17/25
10 GL450 13/17
10 X5 19/26

so whether the higher purchase price is worth it to the OP I have no idea. Lots of factors go into a vehicle choice. I guess the point is that LX gas mileage has never been best of breed. It wasn't a factor for me in Dubai, but coming back to the US we at least considered it.

toddmorr...

No arguments with those numbers, though OP stated he was getting a model year from 2005 to 2007...only making that conclusion as the question is in the 100 series forum section.

If reliability is the major concern, nothing in the list you posted is even close to 100 series reliability, other than the 200 series Land Cruiser you noted. Since a '13 Cruiser is my daily driver, I can say that mileage is essentially the same as wife's '01 LX. I personally would not consider any others on the list, unless (a) my only concern was mileage, and (b) I had no concerns with reliability.
