I did the mod on my 2003 LX 470 over a year ago and everything works great. I found a site somewhere that actually showed pix of them doing it. You do have to be careful taking the trim off but no money needs to be spent to override the system. Electrical tape and a wire nut and just ground to a nearby screw.
