Default Rock vibration?

do you ever hear a funny sound after you shut off your LX?
I do I hear like rocks popping coming from the Lx470.
It goes on for like 5min. max. Is this normal?
Help would be greatly appreciated

thanx, Jacob

Are you referring to the metal cooling/flexing/expanding/contracting once the engines turns off? That is normal.

Normally you hear it on starting, clicking & popping that gradually goes away as it warms up. It was just a thought off the top of my head.

In answer to your question, though, yes, because the 100 manifolds are notorious for cracking.

well I was talking about AFTER you shut the car off.
Does the dealer check for you if your manifolds are cracking?
If they are, how much would it be to replace?

thanks, Jake

I'm pretty sure it's the exhaust/emissions system. It does that on my '01 honda (but not on my 86 4runner...too old for the fancy emissions stuff like dual cats/mufflers). If it clicks when you turn on the engine (engine cold), it's likely cracked exhaust manifolds=$$$ to replace. My theory is repeated short trips where it's cold outside, then the metal warms, then cools suddenly is bad on the manifolds based on the metal its made from.

Replace what? You indicated that your vehicle makes that sound AFTER you turn OFF the engine. That's normal, nothing you can do about it other than completely scrap the emissions system. The cats get very hot to burn off the emissions that would otherwise be released into the air.
