Braking problem... any thoughts?
hey all,
I have a 99 LX470 and the brakes are doing something strange. They seem to want to grab and "hold" even when i let my foot off the pedal. I took it to a local shop, and they said everything was fine, but the delay in letting off persists. It's like the pressure stays in the brake line. Any suggestions before i spend mucho $$$ at the dealer?

Your pads seem to be dragging on the disk.
Suggest that you have a Toyota or Lexus dealer bleed the ABS braking system... They have the service tool needed to activate the ABS accumulator solenoids in the ABS pump, insuring a complete bled of any air. This air may be pressurizing the system.
Or the calipers are rusted on their slide pins, causing a physical bind of the caliper. This is indicated by uneven wear on the inner and outer pads on the same caliper, one dragging on the rotor. The rubber boots are usually damaged allowing the elements to seep in.
Normally, the master cylinder restore should pull back the brake fluid from the calipers and the pads retract back from the disk, .005 -.010 of an inch...
