Hi I am a new member hence the late reply to a 06 post. The leak
is caused by the top rear light, the plastic warps over time, Lexus
will charge $ 400 to replace easy fix clear silicone, And btw Lexus
will not admit the fault. I hope this will help anyone who has this
problem.

I had this happen to me 3 yrs ago...very heavy rain, 40+mph crosswind. I don't think it could be the top rear stoplight since that would cause water to flow into the rear hatch. The wet carpet I had was just about where the driver's side rear D-ring is. I thought it might have been from water entering exterior rear quarter vent. I never figured it out, but it has yet to happen again, and I've been in a strong t-storm recently.

FWIW, I just had my rear top stop light replaced due to a crack about 1/3 of the way from the right side along the internal lens seam. FYI, that light has gotta be the most expensive 3rd stop light sold! Part alone is around $200! (compared to $90 on my LS430!). I looked at the original one and it has some kind of adhesive foam as the seal. The original foam was all chewed away.

Did you have to remove the stoplight to seal it, or did you just caulk around the outside?

I removed the light and put the sealant where that old foam stuff
used to be light side and body side replaced the light and then sealed
the outside, I used a razor like a putty knife on the outside works
great.I Would like to take credit for this great fix but it was my service
agent who told me how.The problem first appeared in the Arab stats
the extreme heat causes the light shrink, Lexus and LC have known
problem for years,Florida Arizona same climate.Hope this helps.

Mine was caused by bad rear weather seal around cargo opening. Replaced and no more leaking.

Default Seal for back hatch

Davidlt, Did you replace that seal yourself or have it done? I looked in to it and the new seal is expensive!
