What size are the stock weels on the 2004 LX?? Are they only 16"? Mine is currently in the shop, so I don't have the ability to go and check. My next question is this...What size can I go up to? For the record, I'm not looking for some ridiculous size. I just may be interested in maybe going up to 18" or 20" wheels. I don't want to affect the ride quality. I would love to hear from anyone and perhaps even see some pictures of some upgraded wheels on the LX. As always, any and all feedback is appreciated.

I think that since 2003, LX rims are 18". Prior to that it was 16".

 

Couldn't you call the shop?

If you don't want ride/handling comprimised it might be best to stay with the same overall wheel diameter.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't move up in wheel size, but what ever you move up to, make sure you tires are lower profile so that you don't exceed the OEM specs by too much.

Typically, the more wheel you have, the less rubber you have and ride quality tends to suffer accordingly.

 

I have 18 on mine w/60 profile tires. In my estimation the ride is great -- nice and smooth. Doesn't look overdone like giant rim w/no tire on it... But I bought it like this so I take no credit, it just works well.

 

I'm sure you have 18" but I would go to 17" and run a higher profile tire. Plus 17" gives you more and better tire selection.

 

From 2003, LX470 come with the 18" wheel. I just got my 2003LX and I am thinking changing the 18" wheel to 16" because I am thinking the 275/70/16 have better off-road capability than 18".

actually, I am think using a 16" wheel with differetn Offset value.

16's or 17's will ride smoother (cushier) on the road than 18's (less rubber/air between you and the pavement). 18's look better, 16's look too small. All USA LX's from '03+ come w/ 18's. From 98-02, they are 16". My '03 came w/ chromed 18's. I just had the spare chromed.

I agree that w/ 16's and 17's, you get a superior tire selection. IMHO, 17's is the best compromise of performance and looks. With 18's, there are very few choices in the OEM size (Michelin, Dunlop Grandtreks[suck], Bridgestone Dueler HT's, Yokohama Geolander AT/S [supposed to debut this spring]). If you go up 0.5-1", you can get the bridgestone revos or alenza's, BFG's, etc. One thing to watch is the tire WEIGHT. Since this is rotational mass, 4 lbs is noticeable on fuel economy, braking, and acceleration. Going w/ a larger tire or larger wheel w/ the same diameter tire will reduce braking/acceleration. With larger than 18" wheels, you'll also get a harsher ride.

 

Actually mine is come with 18" while I really want to try the 16".

Does anyone know the proper offset value of the 18". There is no marking in the wheel and I want to choose 16" with smaller offset.

Or anybody have differebt opinion on this?

 

Stock is +60mm offset and 8" in all diameters. I would go no less than +35mm offset on a 8" width wheel.

 

yeah, i have something like +12mm offset on my 8" wheels, they stick out nice but...prevent me from upsizing to more agressive larger tires Truck does handle turns better then stock +60mm offset, but i dont know how the suspension will handle it in the long run.

 

With the price of tires these days, many manufacturers are offering 20" as factory size and you can get 275/45/20 for as low as $120 each which is comparable to many 17" and lower than many 18" in cost. Your cornering will increase while still keeping enough sidewall to cushion the bumps. 22" is as big as you can go without seriously changing the ride.

 

Be careful with negative offset if you are doing alot of offroading do to camber issues when articulating. You may have wheel arch rub if the offset is too far negative. I have friends running as wide as 12" wheels onroad with increased tracking, but watch how aggressive your tread pattern when doing this because
of potential vibration.
