lx gremlin strikes......
i started up the car in 40 degreee weather. drove it about 1 mile on a slight decline. was about to accerated from 35 mph. the rpm was at idle. i floored it....no change. check engine light , vsc trac light, vsc off, lights all came on. shfting to all defferent gears did not matter.
i stop the car. since i was on a decline. i could let it sly down hill to the next turn off or go back 200 feet to the turn off i just passed. so i put it reverse and hoped for the best.
i put it in reverse and released the brakes.....it had enough power to go backwards. I tried flooring it, ...still at idle. the car was moving at its own power level backwards up the hill.
after i was safe on the side of the road. i turned the engine on and off a few times hoping it would reset. it did after 15 mins. i drove it back to the hotel a mile back and stopped the car for about two hours.
it works normally again. what happend?

It sounds almost like your starter was stuck on -- to the point where you started to damage your alternator.
I had a similar problem with my LX 450 a while back. The starter contacts were stuck on, which caused the starter to remain engaged. I didn't realize this was going on while I drove it, but could not get the truck up to speed -- I was stuck below 2000 RPM. When I got to my destination, I couldn't turn the truck off -- I'd remove the key, but the starter kept cranking. Because the dealership was close, I decided to drive there to have them take a look. On the way there, all the lights on my dash came on -- some started blinking!
Before I got there, it all worked itself out, but the tech at the dealership told me that all the lights on the dash will come on if there's a problem with the alternator. Turns out the alternator was getting stressed because the starter was stuck on.
HTH.

Sounds like the ECU went into "Limp Home" mode for some reason. Although I thought that was indicated just by the ECU l warning light coming on, not the whole system lighting up.
I'd get it to a dealers and get them to plug their diagnostics in.

brought the vehicle into the dealer and they read the fault code. they said it was a defective throttle body. it needs to be replaced at a parts cost of 950.00. (lucky i have a extende warranty)
they also said i was lucky that it worked again, because when it goes out....they stay permanently dead. normally i would not be able to drive it.
now that i know the problem and it's getting fixed.....would my k&n filter have had caused this mess? if so, i'm junking the filter.
