Default Oil Pan Plug

Hi,

I have 2000 LX470 and I want to try to change the oil next weekend. I found the oil filter but couldn't locate the oil pan plug. Can you help? Is is covered by the plastic protection piece (oil pan guard)?

I understand that I need to buy mobile one oil 5-30 and dealer oil filter.

I usualy pay $70+ for an oil change at the Dealership.

Sorry, didn't see your thread tucked away in the engine section. As you can tell these engines don't have many issues so this corner of the forum is pretty slow. That's a good thing. The drain plug is just back from the plastic undertray beneath the vehicle. It is on the bottom rear portion of the oil pan. Yes M1 5w-30 is loved by this engine. I'll start another thread with an oil analysis of m1 5w30 in this engine for you to peruse.

j/k. I'm sure you know the difference between the two. in order to get to the drain bolt for your OIL PAIN you'll need a 3/8" drive 14mm socket, 3/8" 6 in extention, and a 3/8" ratchet. Pref. a long one so you don't have to put much effort. To get to your filter you'll need a 12mm socket. Just undo the bottom bolt on the filter cover, and loosen the top one. This way you can just rotate the cover on the loose bolt without having to take it out.
