Hey guys i'm new here..just wondering if you guys can give me some pointers n tips ...

Just got my 00' Lx470, and jsut want to do a tuneup before I go on a long trip. I just wanted to know exactly where the oil filter and oil drain bolt is, how to reach the spark plugs and what oil do you guys recommend for this 2000 lx470. I took a quick glance at the engine and it seems hard to reach and couldn't find the oil filter..so tomrorw when i start on it i can get it done right away.

thanks,
John

I can't answer all of your questions but here's the answer to a couple:

To get to the oil filter you have to go through the skid plate on the front end. You'll see a small plate held on by two bolts (14mm maybe?) undo those 2 bolts and off comes the oil filter door. That's your access for the filter.

As far as oil goes I use Mobil1 5w-30 (blue cap on it) and a Mobil1 filter but the filter from Toyota is just as good in some comparison tests I've seen.

Your sparkplugs more than likely are fine as they are not changed for very long intervals by design. Also, the manual gives specifics as to exactly what plugs you need for the engine if you do change them. I've not done this on my vehicle but remember the manual being very adamant about using certain pregapped iridium tipped plugs from NGK.

If I have time I can take some pics tonight for the filter door and drain plug.

I'll look in the manual tonight but I was thinking the interval was at least 50k miles before they should need changing. 12k miles on a 2000? That's a good find.

The Denso Iridium plugs have scheduled replacement at 90k on my Land Cruiser. I just used 60k Platinum plugs as a replacement instead though, at a much lower cost.
