Considering purchasing LX470. Current GS350 and Forner LS460L owner.
The LX I’m considering has 475,000 miles on it. I don’t know anything about this engine. Is this just way too many miles. It supposedly has been maintained, only driven in southern states and never been off road.
thoughts??

Hello,

Not a single thought, after about 200,000 miles you might as well just flip a coin, chances of it being right are just as high as from any of us being right, especially without ever seeing the car in person. Those engines can last even a 1,000,000 miles, but I've seen them fail at less than 50,000 miles as well, not to mention that engine is one of the least concerns with a car this old and complex, not a single element in it will perform to the factory specification, if at all, so you will have to ask yourself one question - "Do I feel Lucky?".

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Yeah, pretty much what he said. So many variables by this age and mileage. If I saw one for sale w/that much mileage, CHEAP, I would consider it but only if I could do a compression test myself, thoroughly examine it top and underneath, test drive the transmission and check fluid. And it needs to be in excellent condition overall and cheap.

And then IF it looked great, I’d cross myself and hope nothing hidden is going to bite me. And I’d resolve myself that it could and I’d need to be mentally prepared to lift the thing and deal with. I drove a ‘98 LC for a while and all over WA, and towed with it. Great platform, no doubt. Love to get one again and may some day. I keep a weather eye out in case a good deal comes along.
