Brake Pads
Yep, Lexus did this with the 3IS F Sports as well-- create two sets of brake pads due to customer complaints. High friction and low friction.
High friction pads, regardless of make, are noisy. An inherent byproduct of superior braking performance. All the greats are noisy -- BMW M, Porsche, AMG. Noise and high screeching is a badge of honor in sports/race cars.
So a lower metallic or metallic substitute (ceramic or ceramic hybrid) is usually the solution. Less noise, less dirt, but less friction and as a result less performance. With braking, something's gotta give (with current technology)
I can see Lexus product planners being frustrated by this because customers want best of both worlds, supreme performance to match the germans and so all the magazines and youtube reviewers can gush, but also customers complain when they get german-like noise, dirt, and wear characteristics. Unfortunately Lexus does not know what type of customer they'll get before installing pads at the factory. Do it one way, they lose, do it the other way, they lose too.
If the F Sport pads in the LS are like the F Sport pads of the IS, they are supplied by BMW's German supplier Textar (I was the first and original person to report this on the 3IS side). They supply most of the german makes w/ high friction pads.
