Cleaning & Caring for your LS 500
Friends,
I enjoy caring for my cars interiors myself. On my LS 500 I've noticed what appears to be 5 different materials:
- Leather: on the seats and armrests
- I'm going to use Leather Only to treat these. Pretty straight forward.
- Vinyl (?): On the top of the dashboard?
- (I need help here, I'm not sure what this is and how to care for it. It's not real leather is it?)
- Wood: Accents on doors and steering wheel
- Is there any preventative maintenance I need to do other than keep it clean?
- Ultrasuede: headliner
- Ditto
- Some kind of fabric (?): In the doors, behind the arm rests.
- I dont have the fancy pleated cloth, I have the standard stuff. What is it? It has a nap on it like suede. How does one care for it preventatively .
I specifically need help on the red question marks, but welcome any thoughts or insight for the other bullets!

I use a moist towel on the seats and dash and any other leather surface on the doors. There is a thin clear coat on the seats (at least the semi aniline seats) and leather care products won't penetrate it. My car is garaged and I don't use any products with UV blockers, etc. I've been doing this on all my LSs going back to 2002 and the interior has looked brand new when I went to replace the cars.
