Default Apple Carplay

Does anyone have reliable information from a knowledgeable source whether Apple Carplay will be available as an update if I were to purchase one of the L500's as currently available? I can't get a clear answer from the salespeople at my local dealership.
I tried the 1800 Lexus line and the nice lady to whom I was speaking couldn't give a definitive answer.

I have the same issue!

How can they not offer this retrospectively on a $100,000 flagship when its available on a $20,000 Honda!
Also available on new Avalon, ES and UX.

If Tesla can constantly do updates, why cant Lexus?
Remember, when original LS was launched with a small defect, Lexus flew technicians to all remote parts of the country to make the update!

I intend to tell the Lexus salesman that I won't purchase unless they can give me a straight answer. I can hold off another year on the purchase, but am willing to buy now if they'll give me something in writing they'll update software.

"A spokesperson for Toyota and Lexus previously told MacRumors that they do not currently plan to offer CarPlay in pre-2019 vehicles."

Carplay is a deal killer for me too. I was at the Durham, NC dealer a few weeks ago. This is what I learned:

-If I ordered a new LS500 with the color/options I wanted, it would be a 2019 model
-Carplay will be part of that vehicle
-The salesman had an official looking sheet showing which 2019 models had it, and the LS500 was on there

Having said that, I haven't seen anything else official about it, and would not consider ordering the car without solid confirmation. Until then the vent holder will live on.

Salesguy, that's more information than my salesman has offered. Agree, not to purchase unless I get something official.

I agree it's more than I've seen elsewhere. I wouldn't have believed him if I hadn't seen an actual sheet of info with the 2019 LS on it. Hopefully more concrete info will be out soon.

Seriously? Of all the things to make or break a car deal, your biggest concern is Apple CarPlay???

As they say to each their own.

If you are bought into apple ecosystem, and use the navigation and other stuff it's a big deal. Especially when a $20k ford has is!

Plus it eliminates the need for the stupid vent holder to keep the phone visible. I drive a bunch and can't live without it. If I didn't use the navigation (waze) constantly I could live without carplay.

I contacted Lexus Customer Support a few days ago about whether Apple CarPlay would be made available on existing LS500s.

This was the response:
"Thank you for contacting Lexus. We appreciate your interest in Apple CarPlay being implemented into the LS 500. Lexus strives to offer products and services that match our customers' diverse driving needs, and we continuously evaluate emerging technologies for use in our vehicles. While Lexus continues to work closely with Apple, we have not announced a CarPlay rollout strategy for the LS 500 at this time. We certainly appreciate your inquiry, as it is through communications such as yours that Lexus learns of our customers' expectations and reactions. You may sign up to receive updates via our email list when articles are posted at the Lexus USA Newsroom web site. Thank you for choosing Lexus for your driving needs. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us. Sincerely, CameronLexus Guest Experience Center"

BTW they have an official list which shows that after October 2018, 2019 LS500s will have Apple Carplay!

I urge all of you who have a 2018 LS 500 to contact Lexus , as I did, demanding they roll out Apple CarPlay to existing LS 500s.

Remember, in 1989, when it was found there was an issue with the LS400, Lexus went to extra ordinary lengths to correct the issue, even flying techs to Alaska to deal with one customer. That response established Lexus reputation. Will be very disappointing if the same company today cant do a simple update to about 7,000 flagship, expensive vehicles!!
