Default Massive Data Dump from Lexusenthusiast

In advance of the end of the embargo on driving impressions Kevin at Lexus enthusiast has done a massive dump of all the technology and features of the new LS500/500h.

There are some cool videos as well. My initial impression is that this car is going to be worth the wait:

As a former LS owner (switched to the S550 in 2014), I'm a bit confused about the all speeds adaptive cruise on the LS 500. I am one that loves high technology. So here is my question. Is this "all speeds adaptive cruise" the same as stop and go cruise like I have on my S550? Once the new LS comes to a complete stop, could I pull a lever or something to engage the cruise from the stop position?

My understanding is that if the car slowed down and came to a complete stop with the DRCC engaged, and without any driver input (i.e., manual braking), then it will start moving again without any driver input. I believe that the DRCC on my 2014 LS works in the same way, but I have not tested this feature in bumper-to-bumper traffic on a freeway.

It doesn't, you will have to take over once it comes to a total stop in your LS.

Thanks for the clarification. How about the LS500? Would it start moving again without driver input?

With DRCC enabled, my '17 RX moves again from a full stop with the flick of the cruise control stalk. I would expect the LS at minimum will behave the same if not in a more automated fashion.

Note however DRCC must sense a vehicle in front. If the vehicle ahead switches lane for instance, DRCC will disengage and you need to manually (foot) accelerate.

I believe that's what Steve is saying also for the current LS that the driver has to activate CC again to start moving. I have DRCC but I don't use it in stop-go traffic on the freeway. We think the LS500 will start moving from a stop without any driver input.

You should get your DRCC checked out. I use DRCC on interstates all the time. The system will remain engaged and continues to function even if the lanes ahead are empty: it doesn't have to detect a vehicle to stay engaged. Sometimes, the system will erroneously detect a vehicle in an adjacent lane on sharp curves, and may slow down momentarily, but quickly corrects itself.
