Leave it to Steve!!
I had no idea.
It's still strange to me but I'm sure they have their reasons.

Haha, happy to help!

You see that type of setup on some different supercars...

One thing I noticed about the gauge cluster. In these pictures it shows a MPH readout around the rim instead of RPM, while still showing a digital speedo in the center.

I actually prefer a analog speed readout, but I also like having a tach also, looks like its analog speed readout or tach, not both...

Awesome observation.
I too prefer the analog mph readout and enjoy a tach.
Since I've owned this car and when on a road trip, I like being able to see just how low the RPM's are during higher cruising speeds, as well as in the mornings, being able to more or less monitor RPM load upon start/warm-up.
Im wondering if it is a tach read-out, will there be number abbreviations (decimal system) or an entire number...
Id have to imagine it'd be pretty ugly to see 1800 in the middle of the speedo! lol

Have to admit I wasn't too crazy about the LS from everything I was reading before, but after seeing the pics...WOW. The **** placement doesn't bother me since it's in a better line of sight, pretty sure it wouldn't be an issue. I've read rumors about the possibility of an F version with a TTv8, which would really peak my interest. Overall though I think the car looks fantastic.

So apparently, there must be a mode to switch back and forth.

I haven't seen a picture of the dash powered off. My guess is that entire center unit is just a display, unlike the fuel and coolant temp gauges on the two sides. If that's the case, I am sure this display can be configured to show a variety of information. Whether the big circular silvery dial is retained in every display mode remains to be seen.

Maybe Steve or someone will check pics of the LFA dash, and point out that I am mistaken about the center display

Check from 0:30 on this LFA video. The fuel gauge is also digital, but the center dial graphics could be the same in the LS500.

The center display in the LS is all digital. In the LFA and other F sport cars it's all digital with a moving metal ring.

Based on this image (taken from C&D), I would say the center display is all digital.

While I do like the interior a lot, I don't particularly like the leather in the instrument cluster. Just seems like unnecessary fluff that might lead to another item that might creak and groan when the weather gets hot or cold and the dash flexes while driving.

I would have much rather preferred a larger, full digital screen there.

I also really don't care for the Frankenstein handles.

Although I hated the Frankenstein dials initially, I am beginning to accept them because they look so different from all the dashboards from most car makers. I feel the same way about the leather-wrapped instrument cluster. These features really set the dash apart, and maybe it is a styling cue other car makers will emulate

Unhappy LS500 Not the advance I was expecting

I very much prefer the appearance of the MB s550 - Particularly the appearance of the grill. LS500 Seems way too garish.

Standard engine of the MB s550 far outclasses LS500. At this price point, gas mileage makes little difference to most buyers.

Thought they would have done something more advanced/easier to use than the touch pad for the interior controls.

Interior of doors not up to the appearance of LS460's.

Appears there is a loss in headroom also.

After all this time, I expected much more.

Look closely near the 8 and it reads x1000 RPM
