My daughter jus t bought a 2022 LS 500H, and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a turbo timer for it, she's not one to sit and wait while a turbo cools even for 30 second. Thanks

 

Welcome in the 21th century, yes back in the 80's with those fragile turbo's it was recommended to cool the turbo down before shutting down the engine.

Um, I'm not quite sure how to break this to you Dad. It ain't a turbo.

 

I don’t know of a car mfr. that includes a timer on turbocharged cars. I have had Mazda, Ford, and now Lexus with no turbo problems. It seems that if it was needed that the mfr. would include a timer.
LS500 is turbocharged. LS500h is not.

 

Well I guess I need to read the whole article is was looking at. I saw twin turbo v-6 putting out 416hp, but thats not in the hybrid, my bad.

 

Agreed. My 2012 BMW with the N54 twin turbo I6 had a built-in "turbo timer." It would run the electric oil pump for a minute or two after engine shutdown on hot days if I'd really been flogging it. Seemed to be controlled based on some internal thermostat, probably measuring the temp of the oil exiting the turbo housings.

 

It is my understanding that Toyota built the turbos for our engines. Having utmost confidence in Toyota/Lexus products from past experiences, I’m assuming these things were designed to last.
Toyota has a lot riding on this engine considering all of the Lexus and Toyota models that use it.

 

I think Bosch is the actual turbo manufacturer. I think that was from a savageese video when the 2018 just came out. Something like "Toyota says they designed the engine to last but because they don't make the turbos they aren't sure how long they will last."

Edit I reviewed the videos and couldnt find the quote so I'm second guessing myself now. Also Chat GPT 4o says it's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries but the two web links it provides says nothing about the LS500... so it's probably wrong.

It has TWO TRANSMISSIONS!
That would be my major concern in years to come after the warranty expires.
