Did some searching on the forum and plenty of discussion about carrying a spare tire and switching to non run flats.
For those carrying a spare tire, does the car have a spot for one? Or are you just putting the tire in the trunk?
I want to say there are some vehicles out there that actually have the spot for a spare but they just don't put the spare in the car. Hoping this is what the LS has but somehow I doubt it...
Battery in trunk likley to help weight distribution.
Runflats there to save weight? LOL,
This big girl got big bones but can dance gracefully!
Do other high end contemporary luxury car have spares and run with conventional tires? If so which ones?
I owned Mazda Miatas for years, very small battery in trunk away from engine heat, would last 8-10 years, helped weight distribution in a very light car. It also had a spare tire in the trunk. I liked that.
Miata =155” long. LS500= 206” long.
Even a space saver spare tire would be nice in the LS.

only thing to say from here is instead of a spare tire, a spare "Miata" in the trunk?
If I have a flat runflat while on a trip and limp into the next town, what’s the chance of finding a replacement 245/45/20 tire?
More likely its a story worthy of "the twilight zone".
Im going modern spare. With QQQ and given I keep a small air pump in the trunk perhaps a repair kit.
New Quiet tracks and Modern Spare cost the same as new set of RFT. I have had one flat tire in the last 12 years. But If I don't get the spare I'll. have one as I taunted the "Tire Gods"?
Rolling into town.......
was on our way to West Virginia to Ski at Snowshoe in our then new 2001 Mercedes ML with young kids. IM feeling good as this was state of the art all wheel drive cool mommy mobile with rear seat airbags. no minivan had that then. We left early for a change. Like mid afternoon. Hit Roanoke VA about 3:30pm. We one expressway thrown and tire goes flat, get off highway like fast. "****".........Downtown Roanoke industrial area.......No smart phones then. Not sure how but saw a tire shape a block from exit.........They had one matching tire, I think it was a OEM General Tire, was back on the road less than an hour and it was like not expensive at all. Kharma!!!!!!
What are the odds? Get up into West Virginia and thru some really small towns and tires choices are not exactly plentiful. In some areas we are more likely to be held captive and fodder for donor harvesting of our vital organs than find a matching tire for AWD purposes.

One of the first things that I did when I got my LS was to order a spare kit from Modern Spare. If I get a flat and it’s damaged to the point where I can’t run on the run flat, then I won’t be stuck waiting for a flat bed. Anyone from AAA can come to change the tire. (I can’t do it because I’m elderly, I have a spinal cord injury and lower back problems).
Having a spare, I have the option go to non-run flats when the time comes for new tires. Downside is that it takes up a significant amount of space and adds 50lbs of dead weight. Since I don’t take trips the loss of space isn’t an issue. For me it’s worth the peace of mind minimizing the time on the side of the road in the worst-case scenario.

Here’s what it looks like with the spare:
Thanks for the picture. This just encouraged me to order the same from Amazon since I had gift cards to use up. Also comes from Modern Spare and is same price.
Appreciate you sharing the photos. That does eat up a lot of space. Put on Pirelli AS Plus 3s and I think I'm gonna go with the goop and air compressor from Griots garage...
Nice. Does the spare move around the trunk or do you secure it with straps somehow?
No, it’s stayed put. I drive it easy. Also, I have the rubber mat so that helps keep it in palace. If it was on carpet, I imagine that it could slide around.
