More encouraging news.

This 2019 LS500 has the most miles listed to date I've seen without any major service.
No doubt many highway miles averaging about 30K miles/year.
Just goes to show that these cars like to be driven often and deliver high reliability.

Listing below which also includes carfax with all service:

167K mile LS500 for Sale

Why was transmission serviced by dealer at 50K mi?
It is not part of the maintenance schedule.

My LS500 now has 79K miles on it with the transmission working flawlessly and the dealer never mentioned transmission needing servicing nor is it documented in the maintenance schedule till this point. But like you, I needed to repair the massage seats due to the design defect under warranty.

FACTORY RECOMMENDED SERVICE FOR 50K MILES / 60 MONTHS
  • Replace Engine Oil And Oil Filter (Reset "Maint Reqd" Light If Equipped after maintenance at every 5,000 miles.)
  • Rotate Tires (Applies to models with same size front and rear tires and wheels.)
  • Check Installation Of Driver's Floor Mat
  • Replace Cabin Air Filter (If Equipped)
  • Reset Scheduled Maintenance Reminder
  • Reset Oil Maintenance Reminder, if Oil was Changed
  • Perform Road-Test on Vehicle
  • Inspect Wiper Blades
  • Visually Inspect Brake Pads, Calipers and Rotors
  • Add Toyota EFI Tank Additive or equivalent (Hawaii and Puerto Rico only)
  • Measure Thickness of Brake Pads and Rotors (with F SPORT Package)
Lexus performed in an attempt to address an issue that they exacerbated in addressing two transmission TSBs (believe one was for a hard shift between reverse/park or reverse/drive).

I do all my transmissions every ~40k miles, Germans every 30k because I beat the absolute hell out of them and enjoy every minute of it. A transmission drain and fill + transmission filter is such an easy maintenance item relative to the cost of these transmissions (the Lexus DirectShift 10 sp lists for something like $11k). I also do oil changes every 4k miles (max) regardless of use.

The 8 speed ZF used by BMW (and most of the Germans) is fantastic - really wish Lexus had adopted or stayed with an 8 speed in the LS500. My 540 with a first-gen B58 is tuned with around 425 HP/ 445 ft lbs and gets 34 MPG on the highway with an 8 speed. The LS500 gets 25 MPG on the highway if I’m going downhill with a tailwind, so the 10 speed seems more trouble than it’s worth in MPG savings.

Re: slippage- Lexus reviewed everything and needed to update the transmission software- yet again- to address. All of this (save the first transmission fluid change) has been fully covered under warranty, mind you, so totally fine by me other than the logistical annoyance.

Lingus- love the baseless and patronizing assertion of “it’s reality” and “deal with it”. An inspiring and nuanced uplifting of the discourse.

Default Spark Plugs

I notice they replaced the spark plugs at 40k and 80k, then no mention of it after that.
It could have been included with the service, but wasn’t listed.

Honestly, These platinum plugs will last over 150K mi w/o degradation in performance.
They are changed for the emissions warranty purpose only at 40K increments.

When changed at 40K mi increments, there is no improved performance noticed or fuel efficiency improvement and still look great.

It’s 400 bucks at the Lexus dealer. My Denso Iridium plugs looked okay at 40k miles. Lighting is not good in that pic.

I believe that Lexus, like some other manufacturers, uses the spark plugs to measure the electrical resistance of the air in the combustion chamber, providing feedback to the engine control unit (ECU) about the quality of combustion. Changing them early ensures no deviation in combustion quality and thus, emissions.

Had mine for five years exactly before I sold it. Zero issues aside from the AC servo which the dealer refused to replace under warranty. It acted up sometimes, not always. But I admit I was stressing about it since fixing it out of pocket costs too much and I was worried it would fail in summer and I would be screwed.

Only reason I sold the car was when insurance fixed the car at some ****ty garage after a minor accident which led to more problems.

I'm loving my 23' LS 500, but for the life of me, I can't understand how my engine motor mounts failed at only 43,108 miles. Thankfully the car was still in factory warranty, otherwise I would have been $2500 lighter in the wallet.

Mine is a 2021 so now 5 years old. Just recently getting a consistent hella annoying sound from the roof. Mine has the panoramic glass roof and sounds as the brackets which hold the glass is becoming loose. Took it to the dealership and was denied factory repairing. I have a secondary warranty which also denied the repair. This is a huge issue because eventually it just may leak water into the vehicle. Now to reduce potential damage. I am forced to throwing that weekend warrior suit back on. Unless you are willing to pay $3k+ Keep this in mind when purchasing with glass roof.

I understand the primary warranty having expired but the "secondary warranty"? Was this a lexus branded extended warranty? Did they offer a reason for denial?
What is the fix? N0 way to just tighten those brakes? Install new ones? I gather headliner has to be removed with is never pleasant. They suggesting a new panel as a fix?

The second warranty is a 3rd party kind. Where the bank you getting your loan for that vehicle will offer as an option. Lexus said its past the factory warranty. The other said if it's just making noise because something is loose, its not considered a mechanical breakdown. I watched several video about this similar issue with other brands. Haven't seen anything about the LS500 though. The only way of me knowing if I am capable is by removing headliner. Hopefully, the brackets will be accessible.

Do keep the faithful in the loop as you get thru this.
The warranties are unfuriating in many instances.
The last extended one I had was my 2013 BMW 535i Msport.
The headlight drew in moisture. They denided the claim because they don't warranty "adhesives". How else do you construct headlight housing.
This was 6 years ago, the part to replace with install was $2800. Dealer discounted as they felt bad. Then the other one went. I did a quick fix, then sold the car to BMW. Globally they make 6 different headlamp housings world wide so getting a used one was not easy nor predictable.
My hope is you can tighten the panaramic. Good luck!

For the roof noise, if you are referring to a popping sound when making a hard turn up an embankment, I had that also on my 2021 LS. The dealership did fix the issue.
They told me that the bolts used in the roof are a single-use type of bolt that are made out of plastic. Repeated hot and cold causes them to expand and contract and eventually loosen up. You may notice you hear less noise on hot days because the single-use bolts have expanded. The dealership fix was to replace all the single-use bolts with regular/metal bolts. This cleared up. about 95% of the noise. the care is so much better now.

Random question. Does anyone have internal photos of their higher mileage engine? Did anyone take borescope shots of their cylinders with 100,000+ mi when changing the spark plugs? Asking for a friend. XD
