Default Trac Off and CEL Light

Hi I have a 2013 LS460 which I had inadvertently not tightened the gas cap on the last fill and the CEL and Trac Off have illuminated. I went to Autozone and they told me the code which made check the gas cap. I retightened and refueled at about a half of tank of gas and the light has still not gone off. Probably went about 10 on off cycles with the ignition thus far. Any idea how to get these warning lights to reset?

It usually takes about 150 miles of driving to reset the light. If you still have it, there may be something besides gas cap at issue. I'm surprised they didn't reset the light for you when you bought the cap. Or didn't you buy a new cap? O-ring goes bad = new cap, tightening it won't fix it. A cheap way to try and fix issue.

Thanks for the info. I did not purchase a new cap as it was my mistake not to tighten the cap. I am probably close to the 150 mile mark so I will wait another few more days to see if it goes out.

It could be GX460, you are better off asking your question on GX460 forum.

thank god i found this. i realized i was having the same issue. didn't tighten the gas cap correctly. drove ~130 miles over 4 days before I got the codes thrown and I was ********** myself thinking something was wrong with the transmission and i was wondering how much it would cost to repair.

i went to autozone, they read the codes and said the same thing as the original poster. i tightened the gas cap, both CEL and trac off warnings persisted. i disconnected the battery, errors still persisted. iautozone employee recommended I verify if traction control is ACTUALLY off, or if a sensor is malfunctioning. I found traction control was indeed off. i'm REALLY hoping that my code gets cleared out in the next few days while I drive. i refilled the gas to full to see if that would expedite the evaporation sensor being fixed, but it didn't immediately work. crossing my fingers!

Indeed today morning the CEL was off. It took 205 miles (mostly highway done on 2 days) across 6 days. AutoZone did not have to reset the light for me, it went off on its own 🥳
