My good friend has inherited from her late car-loving brother a 2014 LS 460 L-Certified vehicle in very good condition. She is trying to decide whether to sell it and what it may be worth. I’ve searched here and some web-based car sales sites, and I think I have an idea of what price it might fetch. But this car is an “F Sport” and I cannot find any comparable vehicles for sale. I understand this desigation is related to an upgraded chassis / handling package. I would appreciate it if any of you LS-460 aficionados can let me know if “F-sport” was a relatively minor package or, conversely, might significantly add value to her car. Thx in advance.
It is a highly polarizing package that changes a lot about the car, many here consider it something that ruins the smoothness of a 460.....
It sharpens the car up dramatically and gives it much more aggressive brakes and suspension as well as a mechanical LSD and the ISF transmission with manual control. There is not nearly as much emphasis on luxury features since it's more a drivers spec options package.
Personally it's my preferred package but for others it made then sell the cars and switch brands.
IMHO it's a mixed bag. Harder ride, louder engine, less options, special interior color scheme makes replacement parts super expensive and scarce - dislikes. Useless paddle shifters, cool body kit - likes (haha).
I mean, it's a luxury sedan, not a ricer. I get the idea of having that PLUS, but losing options and comfort? Not for me.
The age and condition make it a prime buy. You don't mention mileage or documented maintenance history. There's going to be a limited audience, but someone desiring this model/option will likely step up. Price wise, it's always supply/demand. There's a site called TRED that makes owner sold cars a streamlined process while getting the word out to a wide audience. I bought my most recent LS through the site.
Striker223, Boykie, SWFLA: very much appreciate your feedback. The car purchased new in Sept 2014 for $88.4K. It had 15K miles when 2nd owner (my friend’s late brother) purchased it in Aug 2016 for $58K. It this week turned 79K miles. It is “Nebula Grey Pearl” with a tan leather interior. Reportedly has all the service records since Dec 2016 (tho I don’t know if it was serviced by Lexus - I will find out.) Given your description of the chassis stiffness / suspension tuning I am absolutely certain this is not a car my friend will want to keep. Your comments will be very helpful in establishing an asking price. TQ.
79k is lower miles, which is desirable. Past prices mean nothing, nor does CPO from 2016. Doesn't matter who serviced it. Besides the records with the car, you can go to site, drivers.lexus.com. Enter vin and look up service history for the first two years you don't currently have. It'll satisfy any buyer who asks. Overall it sounds like you have a car that'll be easy to sell and ask top dollar. My wild guess, about $30-32k.
Good looking car but that is not an F-sport since someone traded the lightweight rims off. I have no idea why you would do that.....ruins a lot of the point of having 11lb lighter un-sprung weight per corner
I'm really curious now.....I'm going to pull a wheel off really quick and see what it weighs.
That's my spare, I'm shocked it's that light and my actual tires claim 1lb lighter than the one I have on the spare (It's the factory one, Turanza EL42 235/50/R18 claiming 27lb) and based on the weight of the X-ice you have on there (also 26lb like my PSAS4) my actual rim weights are lighter than the F-sport rims.....what the hell? 4lb lighter.....I was expecting to lose by double that per corner.

Fairly close, my winter tires are 27.7 lbs which makes the wheels 30.7 approx. apologies for being off topic.
Then tire rack is lying to me! They claim 26 lol!
Anyway back on topic the car in question should sell very well, ask for 30+ since it should bring that easily if it is in good shape. I am personally loosely looking out for a silver one under 80k miles to come up somewhere....
The F Sport is a very specific car. Most LS460 buyers are looking for the quiet luxury barge that drives like a cloud. Those who choose an F Sport (biggest mistake I've ever made) are wanting a sportier tighter ride with a more throaty sound. So you're friend may be in for a smaller window of opportunity than if it were a base or L model. That said, there definitely is a market. My first recommendation would be to get a quote to sell your car to Carvana. It's easy to do online. Back when I had my 2014 F Sport, after 2 years I sold it to Carvana who actually paid me $500 more than I paid for the car. Also check out Carmax as well. And, should your friend find a car to buy from one of these places, then they'd save most or all of the tax since it's considered a trade in on a car purchase. Best of luck!!
