Default 2007 LS460 radiator coolant leak (empty)

I have just over 100k miles on my LS460. I noticed that my car heater was not working, checked the radiator fluid and lo and behold, empty, not even low, legit empty (see photo). Seems to have leaked onto the front part of the engine, but anyways, what do you guys think the issue is? Is there a known issue with the radiators of the LS460 over time?

Lexus wants $1600 AUD for a radiator replacement. Hopefully its just a radiator and hose replacement.

There's a nipple at the top/side of radiator that can become brittle. It's been known to break off when the attached hose is wiggled during inspection. I think there's a new part number with improved nipple. I suggest that you go to Toyota for price quote/diagnosis as they are usually less. This repair doesn't require software to do, so any indy shop can do it for less money. The water pump can drip slowly into a hidden area, causing level to eventually go down. Without a proper diagnosis, you may be replacing a part that's not bad.

Before you go, first, look for the leaking or a wet spot. Look at the radiator nipple at the top of the radiator. If you don't see any signs of leakage, get a bottle of Lexus coolant and fill the reservoir. Then look for a leak again. BTW, have you been looking at the temp. indicator lately?

Okay. Will have a look when I next get the chance!

My temperature gauge is pretty stable in the middle. Don’t know if I should continue driving without radiator coolant.

Will update here once I get it fixed

Check your engine oil. If it looks like coffee instead of oil you might have a blown head gasket or cracked block/head. I've seen this happen on Nissans and some Hondas and one time a Toyota. If the car has been kept well it isn't likely but it's a 10 second check.

Default [Solved] 2007 LS460 radiator coolant leak (empty)

Problem solved

My radiator was leaking from the top (I think the radiator gasket or something). First symptom was my A/C heater didn’t work and my radiator fluid was low. After driving and checking the engine, could see bubbling/leaking from top of the radiator when I took off front plastic beauty cover.

just received my car back from the Lexus dealership, new radiator and hose. Problem seems solved. Cost = $1700AUD.

If people want I can post the video of my radiator leaking before it was fixed.

idk. I hear people get cheaper at Toyota dealerships which is cool. Replacimg the radiator on an LS looks super easy though. Probably could have done in for under $500AUD myself but I trust Lexus more than me and my friend lol.

it’s the only repair I have done that has cost me something in my 2 years of ownership so that’s pretty good.

Allow me a little poetry here:

- There's a [mountain] valley.
- With a red lake;
- A red steaming river,
- Flows from it

Oh and that quote is like a mega rip off. Original radiator costs about 180US$. Installs in couple of hours max.

what a beautiful poem, I am in tears.

and yea, pretty expensive for a small job, will try to diy these sort of things in the future. They also wanted $1500 for the smart access wallet card which I just cancelled (after it didn’t arrive in 3 months).

I was looking at this site for a 13 model, your parts are expensive.
