Does anyone know what the grasping or releasing noise after stopped and starting to go on my 2007 LS 460L?

"Grasping and releasing" tells us nothting. We'll need to now a few more things on the noise before trying to make a diagnosis. First, is it RWD or AWD? Second, is it a popping, banging, drumming, squealing, rattling, scraping, humming, drumming, or other kind of noise? Does it do it at cold or warm operating-temperatures, or at both?

One scraping noise that is more or less normal after the car has been sitting for a awhile with wet brakes after rain, heavy dew, or a car wash, is a light scraping noise from the rotors and pads the first couple of times you hit the brake pedal...then it quickly goes away. That comes from the wet brakes causing a thin coat of rust on the steel rotors that is scraped off the first couple of times you use the brake. Once gone, the noise should not come back again until the brakes accumulate more rust...unless for brake-pads are excessively worn and you are getting metal-to-metal contact on the rotors, which will also be accompanied by a squealing or screeching sound from the pad-wear-indicators.

The noise is not brakes scraping. It is more like a very short humming sound or release of something that goes away after moving from a stop. The car is RWD.

Does your car have the feature that uses brake-pressure to hold it when stopped on a hill? Sometimes, when starting off, you'll hear a short hum or wheezing-noise for a second or two as the electrical-linkage is released...particularly if it uses the emergency brake for the roll-back-hold.

It does have the feature for brake pressure hold. I believe it is the electrical linkage disengaging that causes the sound. Thanks the conversations are very helpful.

Mine makes a strange resonating sound from the passenger side exhaust but only at certain RPMs.

How many miles do you have on it? Were the rear bearings ever replaced?

I had to do mine at around 160K miles. The sound was like a humming at speed (like I was driving with snow tires).

I did the job myself for the price of the parts (and a few tools I lacked) using a great post with pictures on clublexus. Not trivial - but doable. Been fine ever since.

I’m sure it’s not the bearings. It only does the noise when I start from a stop. It’s more like an electronic releasing something.

The Hold button is on steering wheel and is used while driving. The E brake is on the dash and is a parking brake. But I don't know how each system works or with which pads. E brake could possibly be electrically activated vs hydraulically. Very complex car. If anyone knows, please share.

So the parking brake (E-brake) only engages the rear brakes, and basically like a conventional hand brake. I've used it while moving before and it will lock up the rear brakes, sometimes. The brake hold just keeps the pressure in the brake lines like a line-lock would. At least this is my understanding. I have the occasional slight chuffing sound from my braking system, for the past 60k miles or so. Only when I apply the brakes at low speed or stop. Is it anything like that? If you are using the brake hold, I think it will make a sound, but I can't remember since I don't use it often.

Parking brake uses own set of shoes and built around drum brakes vs disk brakes used for braking when driving. It uses what seems a pneumatic actuator with 2 metal ropes engaging drum shoes. The intake for the actuator air line is located in the trunk under the spare, if I am not mistaken.

Exactly, like most Lexus cars, the rears are both disks and drums with the drums used as an e-brake.

Here's a video about parking brake problem
But it sounds like your issue is more likely related to brake Hold system if active or accidentally activating. E brake shouldn't be working while starting and stopping. I think you should pull the wheel and have someone watch the brakes while another operates the car, simulating the conditions of stopping and starting.
