I have a RWD without air 2009 LS460. After being in a horrible accident in January and just finally having it fixed, I drove my gf home and somehow managed to bottom out the car while creeping over road under repair. Now when I turn, the steering wheel does not return back to center. It is a little harder to turn the wheel and when turning I hear a dragging noise, like its hitting against something. I started looking for replacement electric power steering units but don't even know if that what is wrong. Anyone else experience this? What route did you go fixing this issue? Thank you!
How old are your shocks, and are they OEM. If they bottom out they might need replacing. Anyway, did you get under the car and look at your suspension components to try and see what the issue is. It might be your tie rods if you have alignment and steering issues.
I agree with ausLx, I think you damaged part of the steering mechanism or suspension. I would have this checked before you do any more driving with the car.
Yes the car is lowered, it just came out of the shop and I still have the oem wheels on (didn't swap out my summer set yet).
When I bottomed out, I hit a manhole cover. I had the mechanic pick up the car, he says its the steering rack but he quickly glanced and I feel like I need a second opinion.
When I turn slightly to the right, the car continues to drive straight. I find myself driving the steering wheel a lot to the right. It does not only feel like an alignment issue, it feels like I lost part of the steering. In addition, the steering wheel does not come back to center after a turn.
I found a replacement electric rack and pinion from a junk yard in LI for 400 with 6 month warranty.
Why didn't you include all that info in your OP. You're here asking for advice but you're not very forthcoming with the details, and the more you leave out the harder it is for anyone to help you. Why don't you get the problem correctly diagnosed before you go buying parts?
