One thing I want to mention is, if you have to park your LS outside, a solar trickle charger might help keep the battery voltage up. My LS 460 gets garaged, since I'm fortunate enough to have one now, but in my 2002 V6 Camry (that was supposed to be replaced by the Lexus, but which I couldn't bear to part with) I installed a small solar charger sitting under the rear window.

I've tested it from time to time of course, and it does consistently provide a small charge to the battery during the day. But it didn't prevent the battery (from Autozone) from going dead after 3 years almost to the day. I learned something from it; if you add a solar charger, you should get the biggest one you can reasonably fit in the car! If you get a really strong one you might even need a voltage limiter hooked up so you don't get an overcharge.

Hi Dean,
Just to let you know, you are perfectly correct. I went today to Lexus and spoke with the "electrical" guy. Best solution he said, if don't drive for 2-3 weeks, disconnect the negative on the battery. When you have to drive, put it back, tight the nut and you can start the car. Don't have to wait for the calculator to finish loading up. The only think you may lose is the settings for the AC function, ON/OFF, the radio will keep the station because they are saved in the calculator with last page before disconnect.
Don't know if this is making much sense, but I have to take it for grant.
So, from now on will disconnect the battery for a none drive over 2 weeks.

Best, Nicx

What is the ideal battery for a 2016 LSL ?

We found our LS dead today. I probably haven't driven it in 5-6 days, and short trips in the lat 2 weeks.
It's got 38k miles, with a Duramax Gold battery.

From what I can tell it has the Cold Weather Package, since it's an LSL model (heater wheel and headlight washers).

So size group 27, and is 800+ cold cranking amps needed?
Consensus on AGM or flooded?

Looked through the manuals and couldn't find anything -- even Lexus couldn't tell me the CCA of their recommended replacement. The car will be used in a cold climate this winter (NY/Mass).

Costco has this Interstate battery for only $120: https://costco.interstatebatteries.c...option=2468206
Seems to fit the bill, since many with 800 CCA are AGM.

Did you even bother to read the rest of the posts on this thread. Short form, put in flooded lead, group 27 because of cold weather package, anything over 750 CCA will work just fine. Batteries cost about 2 tanks of gas. I cannot believe people agonise endlessly over buying a disposable item.

Decided to read The Count of Monte Cristo instead since it was a little shorter.

The issue isn't the cost -- it's having the battery fail unexpectedly...

That is what Jump Packs are for. I have one in every vehicle.

If you've replaced the battery once since you bought the car chances are that's not the root problem, although the tsb states it's for 2013 models I would check your version of the software to confirm you have the updated file that is supposed to help or eliminate this problem. If you have or know someone that has some version of techstream you need to do a health check on the ecu's, when its done there will be calibration numbers shown, compare those to what is on the pdf to see if you have a higher version installed.

There are a few different opinions here on why this happens but none of them make any sense to me, my car (2013) has the problem and I just put it on a maintainer if I'm not going to use it for over 2 days...I'm planning on doing mine soon and maybe selling and looking for a low mileage grcorolla.
