Hello everyone, I bought an 2008 Ls460L with inconsistent mileage. The Odometer states the car is at 144k as of today. However Carfax states the mileage was at 210k in 11/2020. How would I go about rolling the odometer to the correct mileage?
I suspect it will be a difficult to find a reputable company to change the reading as who knows what it should be. As mentioned it's illegal to tamper with an OD.
Maybe the instrument cluster has been replaced. The odometer on my first Lexus LS failed in the late 90's. Back then the odometer was replaceable without replacing the entire instrument cluster. When the new odometer was installed, a sticker showing the mileage at the time of replacement was attached to the pillar behind the driver door. When I had a fuel gauge issue on my second LS, the Lexus dealership offered to have the odometer in the new instrument cluster "flashed" to show the correct mileage. The Lexus dealership did not have the equipment to do it.
If you want to show the correct mileage on your car, stop by a dealership and obtain an odometer replacement label to stick on your door pillar.

Create an account on the Lexus Drivers web page and add your VIN. See what they show. And yes it is a crime but depending on your state it might be a felony or misdemeanor. Have you connected an ODB scanner to it and see what it says?
The mileage on your vehicle was rolled back by the previous owner, that would be the biggest issue here. I would look up the laws in my state and then go back to the dealership and raise hell.
Please, do not spread false information. It is a federal felony. Certain shops are licensed to perform work with odometers but private citizens are not allowed.

Tampering and misrepresenting is illegal. Correcting mileage is not. Two different things. Any private citizen can install a used cluster with different mileage. Is that illegal? Not if it's the same mileage. Is it illegal if it's lower mileage and not disclosed to future buyers? Yes.
You can install an used cluster and you are supposed make a record of it and report proper mileage to DMV each renewal cycle. But you can't alter mileage for whatever reason "correcting" included as a private citizen. Even dealers are allowed to do so in specific circumstances.
Again, not correct. There is no licensing and we are not licensed through any organization, nor is anyone else that does odometer corrections. Dealers outsource their odometer corrections so if they outsource that would mean anyone can outsource or do it themselves provided the correct steps are taken.
