Replacemening factory sounds system
I have a 2011 ls460 and am wanting to replace the factory sounds system. Replace the factory 8inch subwoofer with a aftermarket 8inch sub and add two 12s sub. Any tips that would help or make the process easier.
I'm assuming you're going to use the factory head unit? If so, you're going to need to tap into the factory amp and get the signal from the stock amp to stock sub and send it into a Line out converter. I personally use Audio Control's LC2i. So it goes from factory amp -> LOC -> rca cables -> aftermarket amp -> subs.
Also.. I'm also assuming you're only wanting to retain another 8 inch sub for the mid bass and the 2 12's for lower end? There are many options for this, you can either drive the aftermarket 8 inch with the factory amp (but the 2 12's would overpower it for sure and make it pointless), or use another amp to drive the 8 and another amp to drive the 2 12's, or get a 2 or 4 channel amp to drive the 8 (and control crossovers) and 12's, but that would be a waste because the 8 wouldn't need as much power as the 12's.
Last thing to note is that if you have 2 12's, you're going to want to upgrade your speakers too and get an amp for those. Otherwise, all you'll hear is your bass.
Sorry for rambling but I love adding subs to all of my cars and love planning the builds. I have an Audio Control LC2i and a alpine pdx-m12 powering my JL 10W7 in a sealed box for my LS460L. For my C63, I use an Audio Control D4.800 powering some hertz fronts and am thinking of getting a IDMAX. Feel free to dm me if you have any specific questions.

I have a 2013 w/o Mark Levinson. I used a Helix V-eight mark II, Morel 3 way for the front stage, morel 4 inch for the rear fill and 2 audiofrog GB-12's on a 2000 watt sundown amp for the subs. It has been a year and it still sounds fantastic, gets plenty loud and clear, and the subs pound. If I were to do it again I would just use Audiofrog components all around to save a little bit of money, although the Morel are very nice. No need to keep the 8" if you get good 12's in a good box, more trouble than it is worth to try to tune just right. The helix worked great to integrate into the stock system and switches seamlessly from radio to the helix's bluetooth module using the helix director. I can't recommend that thing enough. Since it is my daily driver and not a project car, after install I had it tuned by a professional so I can set it and forget it.

Probably just a line output converter. The only thing with the output from the subwoofer channel on the stock amplifier is it clips at like 32 or 33 volume, it's not very clean, I watched it with an o-scope playing a 50hz tone and it went into clipping fairly early. Should be alright for you, since music isn't a test tone. Just keep in mind that the car has a loudness function on it where the subwoofer is louder at lower volumes (probably the reason for early clipping) compared to everything else (clipping for 1000hz and 50hz after 49 volume). Also If I remember right, the voltage on the subwoofer channel topped out around 14volts. If you tap for the bass from any other speakers, they all have a filter to filter out the lows, I don't remember where exactly, but you would need to boost the lower frequencies to get the lows right- this is where the DSP was useful. A few members here were satisfied with just a line output converter off of the subwoofer channel to the amplifier, should be enough if you are looking to just make the bass louder, I don't know if it will get really low though. Magic5g had a suggestion of using the audiocontrol lci2, probably a good bet. I would not keep the stock 8 connected, it will be trying to play the same frequencies, just let your new subs do their thing.
