Replacing factory 8" subwoofer
Has anyone upgraded the factory 8" sub? I don't have the ML system, and was thinking of swapping out the sub for a better one, wondering if its easy enough to do and did it sound better?
Thanks
Thanks
I just did it, actually. It sucks taking your rear seating area apart, but that's how you access the sub. It should be noted that Lexus does not make it easy to replace factory audio components.
The sub has its own bracket that it is highly integrated into itself. Other members opted to just drop the new sub straight in with U-clips, but I chose to "extract" the bracket from the factory sub and use it with the new one. It does make a difference, the stock sub weighs less than a sandwich.
I will post a write-up when I get time.

This is the one I have; I do encourage to think about how you're going to mount it since it's not a flat surface on the rear deck.
Any shallow mount subwoofer in 8" should work.

The subwoofer you linked above, did it just drop into the OEM enclosure, or did you have to go another route? I'm really hoping to use the OEM enclosure rather than build an enclosure or baffle. Also, looking at the power requirements, did this sub require an aftermarket amp or will the factory amp be acceptable? 50-150 watts isn't too terribly much. I fully understand the sound quality will not be up to par with a good aftermarket amp.
Added: Edmunds reports the 8-speaker audio system as having 293 total watts. Anyone know how much of that is sent to the subwoofer?

I'd check out SixBanger's budget build for non-ML. It's a pretty good write up https://www.clublexus.com/forums/bui...reo-build.html
