Default Key Fobs

Both of my key fobs only work when I'm standing next to the car. If I move away just a couple of feet they do not lock or unlock. I already put new batteries in both, but it makes no difference. I'm thinking it can only be down to the various sensors that are located around the vehicle. Has anyone came across this problem.

Do you have similar short range when opening the passenger side?
Fob batteries would seem to eliminate the keys as the cause.

Could you have installed the batteries upside down, maybe? I hope it's that easy. I'm sure you tried that already. Good luck .

It does not matter what side of the car that I stand. That's why it is probably an issue with the sensors on the car.

Well homeboy, it could be that the batteries are upside down, or maybe I'm thinking my neighbour's Mercedes is my Lexus and pointing the fob at the wrong car 🙄
Even supposing the batteries were upside down 🙃 the doors would not lock or unlock at all.
As you will see from my original post, the fobs work when close up to the car, but not once I move away from the.

Nothing at all to apologise for, your input is always appreciated. It's also good to have a bit of banter and light relief.

Did the fobs ever work at a distance and then stop working recently? Has this always been an issue since you had the car? If there is something that was added to the car like Dash Cam or an added GPS or a Bluetooth transmitter or something like that could be obstructing the signal (Antenna) that sits behind the rear view mirror.

I don’t believe there is an antenna in the rearview mirror that is related to the wireless remote electronic key. I believe the antenna in the mirror is related to the HomeLink System.

I think you are correct that this is likely an RFI problem but I don’t think there is an antenna in the mirror for the wireless electronic key.

Do you have a tester to make sure the batteries are good? Because, just maybe, they're old/weak and from the same batch. Should be a "use by" date on the packaging too. I prefer Energizer or Duracell for all my electronics that use the CR1632s, CR2032s, etc. Also ensure you're getting the red light on the remotes when pressing the buttons.

Looks like the antenna is in the back. Look at the link above.
