New Car advice, safety and crash test priority
My 2006 Lexus ls430 was demolished when a tractor trailer crashed into me on the highway. I am very lucky to be alive and it's because of the Lexus that I am.
I need a new car and will be looking at Lexus, Genesis, and maybe Tesla plus some. (I'd prefer to get a used certified car)
The 2006 had few safety features outside of park assist and camera but I didn't have to worry about computer glitches. My car was a dream.
In checking consumer reports on various years and models, not all are equal. Any advice from personal experience would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

Greetings. Glad to know you are ok. These LS vehicles are certainly sturdy and do help save lives. I know you loved that 430. It's a good car. I can't speak for the other two cars you are considering, although my neighbors have a G90 (I believe a 2017) and are very pleased.
First, here's some general safety features I found from a 2016 report that might be helpful.
LS460 Safety Features
Second, totally agree to get a CPO if you can or extended warranty. The 2016/17 LS460 is a great car. The LS500 is revamped as you know and seems to be a mixed bag when it comes to buyers. Certainly drive everything you can and make your best decision.
Good luck.

Do you want impact safety or avoidance assist? Impact safety comes down to the current 5th gen ram, certain Volvo's, the X7, and some other heavies that can take crazy energy in their crash tests without any issues. Avoidance system would be other cars I assume but I don't really use or trust those systems since they are slow and inconsistent
When looking at crash tests always remember to check the energy the car is dealing with and keep in mind you may once again come up against high energy crash. A 5 star rated 2500lb car doesn't have to deal with the energy of a 5 star rated 6500lb one and would lose head to head vs even a 3500lb two star car.

glad to hear your ok, your ask is very vague with
no info on budget,
what's important beyond safety
etc etc
some ideas
the g80 does well with safety due to Hyundai having some of the strongest tinsel strength in steel for years Mercedes uses there steel
ls460 would be even safer than your 430
bmw 5 series from 2015-16 are great bargains if you can pick one up with a warranty
also 2016,2017 mercedes e350 are at great prices used that are very safe
good luck

First off, glad youre okay!
The issue with cars of this caliber is that they aren't really crash tested. I dont believe the LS460 was ever formally tested by the IIHS, and I know it was never small overlap tested. Likewise my S560 has never been tested. The IIHS takes data given to them by the manufacturer and uses that data to give a rating.
In general, the newer the safer if only because when the LS460 was designed that small overlap test didnt exist. Most cars that were tested in that way without being designed for that did poorly. So, my guess is a G90 would be safer in that regard than an LS460, which I would assume would fail that test.
With that said, the LS460 is an extremely safe car.

I just checked and I'm correct. The G90 however was tested by IIHS and did extremely well:

Thank you all for your information. I have a lot of research to do. I prefer to buy rather than lease which is why I was considering an older model. I don't need a new car every year.
Now I'm going to look into all options and perhaps even consider leasing a car. Want to see if the 2020 or 2021s have substantially better safety features.
I'll keep you posted. Fee free to comment.
Thanks again

Take a look into volvos. Great deals used, and certain models can be very reliable, not to mention extremely safe. I may have some bias since I grew up with them in my family. However, I feel extremely safe in my LS460. I feel my 2017 XC90 has superior collision avoidance systems compared to my LS.
