Reliable as the LS430
It’s a different car. More technology, more features and certainly repairs can and or will be most certain as with any older cars. Buy all you can afford and shoot for sub 100k mikes. Look at the Lexus owners site for things done to the car. I’d recommend the 2010 -12 years. Good luck.
Control arms for sure. $3000-3500 at a dealer. High pressure direct injection fuel pump gaskets on the heads, $1500 at a dealer. Valley Plate leak (if it hasn't had it yet, it probably will soon), $2000-$2500 at a dealer. Engine mounts, $3,500 at a dealer. Brake actuator failure, $3000-4000 at a dealer...
Those are the big ones.

There are some threads on here with LS460’s with over 300,000 miles on them with very minimal repairs, but having said that, yes I’d think the 460 is going to be a bit more in terms of cost to maintain than your 430.
I’d worry about oil consumption in a higher mileage 460 and I’d worry about the brake actuator. That’s about it. The control arm issue is a piece of cake easy repair. Yes it is a “problem” and yes you will have to replace your control arms, but it’s nowhere near the price of what people are paying at the dealer. It’s an easy job and aftermarket parts are readily available. I literally can change upper control arms in these cars in about 20 minutes per side...I imagine anyone with experience on these cars can do ALL the control arms in an hour and a half.
Other than that? Transmission is bulletproof. Interior electronics are very reliable. I sold mine with 179,000 miles on it, in that time not one single check engine light. Not a one. Think about that - that’s thorough engineering right there - really remarkable and something I’ve never experienced with a car. I’ll give you an example...bought a 2018 Silverado new right off the lot...owned it two years and put 52,000 miles on it. In that time I had a check engine light turn on at 37,000 miles (misfire right out of warranty), a starter go bad (dead right in the driveway), and my transmission stuttered and shaked going up hills on the highway. My frame was rusting on day one. And at speeds over 65 mph the “Chevy Shake” happened (vehicle shook so bad the seats would move). Brand new truck. Babied. Literally falling apart before 50,000 easy highway miles. Just back and forth to work on the same highway I racked up 179,000 miles in my LS460, with no issues.

No I am not new. You, OTOH are. See my join date? Yeah, I was on here when CL was just a message board.
I quoted dealer prices because they are worst case scenario. Also because there are a lot of people out there that maintain older cars at dealers. My 08 was dealer serviced until I bought it last december.
Keep up the attitude, I don't imagine you'll be here long, so enjoy your stay.

As others have said, its more complex than the LS430, and will have higher running costs. That said its a more modern, better car, everything in life is a tradeoff.
If you want to own this level of car, the LS460 is far and away the lowest cost one to own.

I has 2 LS430s and now a 460L. As others said and I will say I get they are supposed to be the same "model" but they really aren't that comparable. So much technology and changes occurred from the 2006 to 2007. Won't be as reliable and mine has certainly cost more to maintain than my 2 LS430s combined (but I have a warranty so nothing out of pocket) but they are great cars. I would buy another again.

thanks so much man I found another one 120k 2010 with all local Lexus service. Yeah if spending <$1000 on controls is my only problem I can handle that for the other benefits of a luxury car.

Sure, First was a 2001 bought it with 30,000 on it and drove it to 185K miles. Only thing I did was valve cover gaskets in that time. Owned it for 5 years. Then bought a CPO 2006 with 12K miles drove it to 95K miles only did regular maintenance no actual repairs Traded it on a 2011 LS460L. LS460 has had control arms, brake actuator, 2 door lock actuators, heat exchange valve, portion of exhaust and heat shield replaced, NAV removed and sent out for over a month to fix two bulbs on the buttons that went out, entire interior replaced, blend door a/c issue, Engine Brake module replaced (accumulator pump motor relay). Luckily it is also a CPO that I then extended the warranty additional years so of all this was no cost but dealer receipts total somewhere between $20-25,000. It's a matter of opinion whether or not this is a lot of stuff to go wrong but I can tell you it's inconvenient to have to go to the dealer so many times and drive a rental However, in my personal experience far more has gone wrong with my LS460L than with both of my LS430s.
You're probably right. I probably wouldn't service with the dealer if I didn't have the warranty. The rental car is convenient as well. Did timing belt, water pump and tensioner on both LS430s it's an important job.
