As you can see there are multiple scratches in the pads as well as deep grooves. While I don't doubt that a flush is long overdo the rotors and/or the pads didn't perform up to par. I started getting the vibrations while braking a couple weeks ago and quickly got worse. I already had the rotors on the way when my starter died. With the new rotors and pads the problem is completely gone.

What did you wind up replacing them with?

50k on them you said? I’ve never had a set of front brakes on one of these last past 30k miles

I replace them with a set of power stop pads that I purchased on closeout from RockAuto. There was a closeout deal on them plus I purchased front pads for the GS as well as getting and rear door the 400. The old pads were still at 3/8 of and inch in one side and a little less then that for the other side. I made sure to check the pain boots for any tears and they all looked good but I might pull the new pads and give them a closer inspection. The old pads looked really glazed over.

I got AWD and I am trying to figure out if I am going to have problems with starter.

I have drilled and slotted rotors, but when I was tracking sources of the vibration I swapped left with right rotors. It didn't really change anything at that point, but after replacing the front left bearing. I swapped the rotors back and shuddering got less pronounced.

Now, I need to replace front right bearing as it is hamming too.

I don't want to sidetrack this thread anymore than I already have but if I was you I would not worry too much about the starter. RWD/AWD doesn't really matter it's a wear item and when it gives up that's it. Hopefully it doesn't happen somewhere really inconvenient.

AWD makes the starter MUCH more expensive to replace though.

It is so weird that RWD and AWD use different starters!

Is it the labor because of the extra parts to remove?

They don't use different starters, its just harder to get to the starter on the AWD car, makes the labor way more.

Replaced my rear pads at 45,100 miles today, front pads and rotors were done at 26k miles.

No, my mechanic found they were low and did them while he was changing the oil.

Even at 50k you can see that I still had plenty of pad material left and that's because I hardly do any braking let alone heavy braking on the highway. Maybe my expectations for these rotors are way too high but even the stock rotors lasted till 100k.

My OEM brakes had plenty of pad material left at 26k miles but they were noisy and shuddered and warped. My 2015 was the same way, so for me the OEM rotors didnt last past 25k miles.

"Lasting" is a relative term. They could have been buffed or resurfaced, but rotors are so cheap its just not worth doing that really.
