Default Running Lights

I have a 2008 LS460 and I believe I have the yellowish running lights or they have become that way. Can I switch these out to the newer bulbs you see like the LED, etc. Also do I really need to disconnect the battery or just pull bulb out and replace?

Do you mean the daytime running lights? I read somewhere that they are driven by PWM and that a basic LED upgrade requires more than just some bulb. It’s what stopped me from upgrading mine.

I gotcha. So maybe just a newer version of the correct bulb or are they naturally just yellowish?

Your DRL lights are also your high beam lights. You can swap them for LED but you will lose the high beam feature. There are a few threads here where members swapped this out. I can't remember if anyone was able to get their high beam function back while running LED. Voltage is cut to the high beams so they can run as DRL so you will need LEDs with a decoder or buy decoders to run with the LEDs so they don't flicker.

They are yellow because they run at lower wattage kinda like a dimmer switch. I did the LED upgrade. but i need the high beams more than i thought i would. So i put them back in.

So currently there is no real option to make the change without losing the high beams? Any option to change to just a better bulb thats not LED?

Hope others can chime in if there is but to my knowledge, easiest route would just get "whiter" halogen bulb replacements. I did this in my Tacoma since the aftermarket headlights voided any warranty if I used LED/HID in the housing. Just have to make sure the bulbs are rated at least 4500K or higher. 4500K is a warm white, 5K-6K soft white, and any higher becomes a little more blue.

Decoder unfortunately doesn't give you the high beam function back, it just stops any flickering from the voltage cut when the car runs the bulbs as DRL.

Apparently this is not just a decoder it supposedly has a capacitor etc it SEEMS to suggest keeping high beam functionality I have sent them a msg

https://www.instructables.com/How-to...to-LED-Lights/Do you have a newer model Lexus or Toyota?

Symptoms:
1.) The LEDs light up intermittently or flicker in the DRL mode.
2.) Both LEDs light up full power when the high beam is on.

Solution:
You will need an R4 setup that includes DRL canceller with capacitors. The capacitor of the R4 decoder will help stabilize the current oscillation. Connect the decoders included in the R4 configuration to the positive wire of your stock harness to eliminate any flickering.

Use an LED tester to determine which side of the stock socket is positive and negative before you plug in the R4 decoder box. The R4 decoder is polar sensitive”

I am fine with not going to LED, I just didnt know if I could get a different bulb that is rated for our cars that wasn't yellowish.

My fix was to turn them off with techstream. You won't get any warning messages. The day time running lights will stay off but your brights and headlights work as they normally do.

I'm not sure if turning the drl off is an option on the Carista app. Someone else on here might know.
