Default LS600 headlights... should I ? Questions

So sometimes here in Ukraine I see some 600 headlights going for cheap, I have some follow up questions... if some with an early 600hl can help answer:

1. the 3 top lens, they are the LEDs, are there bulbs? I know leds have a long service life but if the bulbs are not serviceable I am not interested in playing .. just no, there are more interesting things I can do to my 460 lights for the money.

2. how do DRLs work

3. this might not be accurate but the big lens at the bottom inner corner is xenon ? I read in one article but could be wrong (it also doesn’t make sense coz xenon is not instant on) is that the high beam? If so what bulb does it use, if it’s the high beam does it use a mechanical shroud?

4. I see they make conversion harnesses, as far as I can see these are just plain old pin to pin connections, why can’t someone just rig something up, why is anyone paying 150 to 259 for this nonsense ?

if it’s not a viable idea from the answers I get, I’ll just modify my current headlights. I’m thinking of doing a bi xenon conversion on the DRL high beams or bi led.

thanks guys

1. Not serviceable bulb, if they break you need a new assembly but I have yet to hear any ls600hl low beam failure
2. DRL are incandescent and use the same bulb as high beam but at lower intensity
3. Incandescent type 9005, used for high beam and DRL.
4. I don't see any limitation on doing your own harness

right, so the high beam is the same as our rubbish high beam that’s kind of odd to have all led nice white light then orange DRL and high beam, I guess that’s the exact same as our xenon and halogen set up

The halogen high beams project infrared, which is used by the "obstacle detection system". IIRC there's some kind of a filter that only lets infrared through, and the filter moves aside when the driver uses the high beams.

Replacing the halogen bulb with an alternative light source might interfere. Not sure if this is the case for only cars with APCS.

Advanced Obstacle Detection SystemSubject to weather conditions, the PCS Advanced Obstacle Detection System can recognise a wide range of obstacles in the vehicle’s path, including pedestrians, by day or night.

The system combines information gathered by both a millimetre-wave radar and an infrared stereo camera. The 76GHz radar is mounted behind the grille and scans the road ahead. The camera consists of two near-infrared CCD lenses, mounted 350mm apart at the head of the windscreen and generates digital video data by capturing the near-infrared radiation generated by dedicated emitters built into the headlamps’ high beam projectors, when it is reflected by objects directly ahead of the car. According to local conditions, the camera has the ability to detect pedestrians and animals, even after dark.

They do sell them in Japan but I'd call the process more a rebuilding than servicing and they may not fit LHD car. They are 1,767.54$ a piece at jp-carparts.com

Yes it's only for car with APSC, the headlight for those are a different part number which include the filter mechanism. They cost about a thousand more USD than the assembly for car without APCS.

Edit: I'm not sure if this mechanism is used in the regular PCS as well but as far as I know I have yet to see any 2008 ls600hl without the regular PCS at least in Canada. Maybe in the US market you could have car without that option ? If so then it would make sense that the filter would also be present on car with regular PCS as well.

Hmmm although leds are meant to last a very long time, I guess in this situation it is not really worth the risk for me get into a 600 lamp mainly because the high beams are non led/bi xenon and I really don’t see the point because the DRL high beam is going to be like mine now.

Getting the car modified with bi xenon lamp with a shroud has the best effect but I don’t want to spend unnecessary money on purely cosmetic.... so has anyone looked into this any led bulb that can function like the halogen now ? Low voltage DRL and high beam high power?
ive looked a bit but non of the well known brands carry bi led
