Default Idle mode

Howdy folks, Santa here, I have been perusing this forum for a while and WOW there is some good info here. I am new to the LEXUS family and have really enjoyed my car. She is a 2008 LS460 with 175,000 miles. I have replaced the upper and lower control arms. That was a punch in the gut! Still I got a very good deal on the initial purchase. I had her serviced by Lexus of Chattanooga, it was the 175,000 mile maybe the 150,000 mile service. Quite extensive service, they also ordered new interior parts for me. Nice, can't wait for them to come in. I am now experiencing another gremlin, Twice she has gone into IDLE mode. Engine lights come on, VSC code, traction control, the works. She also goes to a slightly higher idle and stays there. I can disconnect the battery for a few seconds and everything resets. I have checked the battery, twice and also replaced my gas cap. The shop says no codes because I disconnected the battery so they can't read anything. O'Riellys, ran a code before I disconnected the battery and said Throttle position sensor. The mechanic told me the dealer says I have to replace the entire throttle body as the sensors are not replaceable! Has anyone run into this situation? Thanks guys, Y'all have a GREAT DAY.

It does look like your mechanic is correct unfortunately. The throttle body has a motor controlling the intake butterfly valve as the car is a drive-by-wire setup.

Thanks for the quick and informative reply. The shop says about 1,200.00, sound about right to you? Any info as to this problem will be very much appreciated. Thanks

Get an used one in a good condition from Ebay. It will cost you ~$200. Make sure to get it from a seller with a good reputation.

There would be a lot of profit involved at that price point. Actual labor time would be quite brief on this repair.
I’m not sure if there is a procedure involved to mate a new throttle body to the cars control system. As stated below (above?), a used unit from a salvage yard would save a lot of money.

You can buy techstream software on ebay for $40 to program a different throttle body to your LS. The software can be tricky to install if you are not computer savvy.

As an alternative, if your shade tree mechanic isn't good at installing software I have a laptop with techstream pre installed for sale. I have used it on my 2007 ls460. It comes with the mini vci cable to connect to lexus or toyota vehicles. The laptop charger is also included.
