Navigation Update
Please share with me the options to Update the Navigation system
The dealer offered an upgrade for $250 - software and $250 to install. Then he said; better if you use your phone.
Ugh
The Lexus site suggested taht tehre are "no updates available".
The base software is an open source navigation system. Perhaps there is a update via the oppen source company.
Would be nice to have accurate maps.
I subscribe to Sirius to get updates to the "business search"
Thanks for the suggestions

The update is for the Maps (the data) not the Nav system software. The appearance and functionality of the Nav system will not change, but you will have the latest maps for North America. Since most folks nowadays use Google Maps and Waze on their phones for navigation, the utility of the dealer-installed Maps update is debatable.
Those prices are just plain silly. The retail price of a nav update is only $169 and the installation charge shouldn't be even half that. The tech starts the update process and can walk away to do other things.
Our Prius is the same navigation system generation and uses the same activation card method as the 2014 LS460. I reduced the $169 activation card to $143 by buying it through the Costco Auto Program and paid only $40 to have it installed.
Maybe if more people got their maps updated, dealerships wouldn't try this sort of pricing nonsense. In-dash navigation is nice to have if you drive in areas where there's no phone service like we often do.

Use WAZE, it's much better anyway.
I forgot to mention that the map update issued last year (2019) for the 2014 LS460 appears to be the most current one - part number PT219-HDD07-19. The "-19" suffix is for the year the update was issued. Map updates used to be issued every fall like clockwork but the release schedule has gotten floppy the past few years. The retail price of the activation card is $169 but like I said, it should be possible to buy it for less and the installation cost shouldn't be all that much. Here's a link to info on the Lexus website about it: https://parts.lexus.com/p/Lexus__/GE...19HDD0719.html
When I first got my 2014.. the NAVI system was never updated... I did one of those...em... ebay deals... like $75, a USB drive and about 1/2 hour and it was done... 2019 maps. Still as worthless as it is when the car was new. I guess in a fix, like, no cell range (not sure where those are any more), it would work but, I never really travel that far to worry about it.
ONLY reason why I wanted to do it, is one of the major bridges I travel over every day (still do) was changed in like 2018 so my 2014 when getting on the highway, I was driving over water....
I ended doing the Android Auto / Apple car play kits... I can use Waze on my Navi screen and, and use my mouse to control it all. I can STREAM XM radio and I get the skip features like modern cars do. It's a complete game changer....

Does the update data no longer have updates to the Gracenote Database? One of the reasons I am looking to update is for that. Maybe I'm one of the few people that use it but I record data from CDs to the hard drive in my LS and it's nice to see the track data on the screen.

Oh, This is a 2007, or 2008 LS your talking about, putting music on the hard drive. My last car was a 2007 and I did update a year before It got totaled...Gracenote.... and in a nut shell Gracenote is a POS, I put in 15 albums on there, most from the 2000s, and a handful going back to the 80's and even one that was from 1973, These were retail disks, not hand made ones, NOT ONE was detected when they were ripped to the HD... I talked to someone at the dealer when I was getting something done and said, I don't want the navi update, what is the chance you can update the Gracenote data, and they charged me like $20 to do it.. That is how I updated it when I had my 2007
I did like that I could use CDs with CD Text and that did show up on the display but, if I ripped a disc with CD Text, it would lose it...

Most of my CD music collection is from the mid 80's to the mid 90's with some 2000's. Nothing was 'ripped' it was just me putting the disc into the car and using the Mark Levinson drive/software to move it to the internal HD of the Navi system. All of the early content was detected but pretty much nothing from 2000 on was detected by the Gracenote database. I can live with that but I'd hoped for more from a dealership update.

Call a Lexus or maybe even a Toyota dealer (as they can do it as well) and schedule a simple oil change, and ask them on phone how much for just the Gracenote. I am sure it's not that expensive.
The 2014, required a code and software on the USB drive with the map data (this could be done at home, if they allowed you to, well I did it). The 2007-2010 required a USB with a KEY, that you can put into a Lexus computer that is connected to your car, the USB drive is the license.
So, there is not a 3rd party way to do a 2007-2010 (or to 2012 ?), only the dealer sad to say.
Nothing ventured nothing gained... I'd try to call if it is important to you, the worse they can say is that it's expensive and you can say no.
Good luck !
I used the term Ripped meaning you put in a disc and the car copies to the hard drive. Aka Ripped the disc.
