Strange KEY problem....
Hey all,
I have run into this now 3 times and it's concerning for me it's not all the time, it's random.
When this happens, I am done driving, so I shut off the car, get out of the car and hit the lock button (2X)on the door handle and it will giving an error on the center of the speedometer "Key Not Detected", this will result in a long beep, not allowing me to LOCK the car. Opening the door and re-closing it, does noting when it's being moody.
I have gotten back in the car, started it, and shut it off and it did the same thing. The next time I drove it, it seemed fine and locked fine. It happened again 2 days ago
I thought it might be key battery issue and I replaced it with a new one, and it has done the same thing.
Yesterday it was fine but, wanted to see if anyone else has seen this issue, I NEVER saw any issues like this on my 2007. Like I said it's random.
Thanks !

Do you have another key fob to try to see if it is affected too?
Also is your car battery in good shape? I know it sounds weird to ask that since it should have a good charge level in the moments after your drive but it’s nice to start with basics in diagnostics

The car has been parked a lot due to COVID-19, so it could be that. I do take it out, I try for 2-3 times a week but, in the last 7 days, its' been just moving it (painting projects in the garage, wanted to move it out). I can't stand to be cooped up in the house.
I start going back to the office next week and I don't want to have this happen when in not such a nice area or something. I ALWAYS locked my car, from my first car that someone broke into, I have never left a car of mine unlocked, even in my garage.
Thinking about it, ,it might be from sitting. I will let it run for 15 min before traveling today, and after 4-5 stops to see if it happens again.
Just a really strange one..

No, it happens random places. I have not been to the office about 3 months now. No rhyme or reason for it. I stopped at CVS it happened, I stopped at package store (that I normally don't go to) and it happened. Just for example. It happened at home once, every other time, it's been fine at home.
I went into garage with my trusty voltmeter, with the car sitting over night, it was at 12.4v and that is kind of low. I started the car up and it was it floated in the 14.10 to 14.6 (in range). I let the car sit running for 10 min, and shut it off, I checked it and it was at 12.6v in range for a good battery.
Maybe it is from just sitting too much ??

Since it works some of the time, that probably indicates that all is well with your equipment. The Smart Access feature employs a very low powered transmitter in the wireless key to respond to an interrogation signal that your car sends when you press the button on the door. If there is an interfering signal or the key is out of range then you would get the long beep and Key Not Detected error message. The next time you experience this try holding the wireless key very close to the car while you operate the button on the door. Let us know if that seems to work.

I'll post back after taking trips tonight, hitting 3-4 places I need to before coming back home.
It would be interesting to see if getting that additional key fob makes any difference, DavidinCT.
FYI - I got an additional key fob for my 600 at the Lexus dealer last week. The cost was $287.25 plus $69.88 to program it.

I keep watching eBay for a used one... I have Techstream (Hackstream if you want to call it as a ebay kit), so I should be able to program it myself... I can't see paying $300+ for a key... UNLESS I lost mine or something...and let's avoid that one...
I still have my key from my 2007.... well one of them... As the key shape is different, I was kind of told that It will not work on my 2014...

I agree, the dealers charge way too much for the key fob. Four years ago, I got a 2nd key fob for my car. Dealer quoted nearly $400. I worked with a local auto locksmith who bought a smaller Lexus key fob with all the same buttons (I have seen similar ones on Amazon), programmed it and cut the mechanical key for $160. Well I, I got kind of drunk tonight, found a really good IPA, JUMMY ! ..(I am on Vacation, so I am TRYING enjoying it ! )...I start looking for a new KEY on ebay... Found a few, offered $70.... and they accepted.. So I will try to use my Techstream to program it... I'll buy another key, and get it taken care of later....
Anyone got a good thread to use Techstream to program a remote ?

If anyone is wondering... I drove the car tonight, stopped at 3-4 places, the problem didn't show up....I will report if it happens again...

LOL, yes, drunk bidding, not a good thing. Well, USED keys on eBay tend to go $110-175 for used ones, getting one that looks MINT for $70 and claimed works perfect with a new battery, I would of jumped at that sober
I DID NOT drive after drinking, I never do that even after one drink, too much to lose if I got stopped and it's just NOT worth the risk.
Well TODAY, I was checking some things out with my Android Auto install, trying some new cables, etc. And this problem happened again. It was doing it's noise then stopped, I went back to the car and it did it again. My wife just came home so I was talking to her for about 3-4 min... I went back to the car and it locked fine.
I am going pull the battery for a while, and see if this happens again...
