totally normal and talked about here frequently. Usually it is the first shift from 2-3 after a cold start and then it's gone. If it's lasting longer than that, maybe a different problem, but guessing it's just the normal behavior all of these cars exhibit.

I showed him those posts and a video some member posted here but hes arguing that his car never did that in his 3 years of owning the car

My 2011 had same behavior, flares from 2-3 after startup ad then all good.

My 2016 doesn't shift that great. I don't think there is a problem but not very smooth right after startup. It smooths out afterwards.

I am going to change fluid and filter in near future. I will report then if I still have flares after startup.

How many miles does your friend's LS460 have? Heat is enemy of transmission fluid. People in middle east should keep an eye on the fluid.

Toyota tunes their transmissions to shift this way when they are cold. Supposedly it helps to bring things up to operating temperature more quickly. It’s totally normal.

By dropping the pan and changing the filter your changing less than half of the atf fluid. If it didn't used to flare I would change the fluid a few more times. I agree from the description it sounds normal. It looks like your daily low temperature is around 60f. That is similar to my climate too. I don't get the flare until it gets a lot colder typically down to 40f or so.

Ok so long story short 3 4 moths back he started getting hard shifts on second and third gear so he went and changed his atf and filter it did not solve his little hard shift problem. he did a battery reset to try the learn process it worked for a while and later on started to slip (rpm going high ) this happens on 2nd gear and sometimes 3rd gear . And goes away on its on .it sometimes happen in between the drives and sometimes when he starts driving initially

Miles done are 148000

Getting the fluid set at the right level is very important. If he had hard shifts and is now having slipping problems. I would guess the fluid is not set to the correct level. There have been a few threads on dealers not performing this correctly too. There is a lot of information in this thread. There are no short cuts to setting the fluid level, especially after dropping the pan and filter. Hopefully no damage has been done if it is a fluid level issue. It is also possible they forgot to install the oring for the filter.

I have the same issue with my 2005 RX330. Changed the ATF and differential fluids. It helped a little but did not solved it. Do you know what is the update about that issue after all these years?
