Yesterday as I was driving down the road an error message came on the screen saying trunk was open. When I arrived at my location, sure enough, it was open. I raised it, hit the close button on the trunk and it closed. When I came back outside an hour later, it was open again. I drove home on the highway today and it would ding back and forth on and off as if it was open and close and then eventually would just stay on that it was open. When I got home, it was actually not open. I just went back outside and it is ajar again. This is a 2014 model. any help would be greatly appreciated. Hard to park anywhere and leave the car, not knowing when the trunk is just going to open.

Wow, I know that is perplexing.
A couple of things come to mind. I think first you should disable the trunk opener using the disable-switch in the glove compartment, see page 131 in your owner's manual. After you disable the opener, go behind the car and lift up on the trunk, using your hand under the lip above the license plate, to ensure that the trunk is closed. Drive your car several times to see if the phantom behavior occurs.
If you are still having adverse events, then that may be an indication that the latch mechanism is damaged. The latches can only tolerate so many aggressive closures.
Are you sure your remote is not tight in your pocket? On my 2007 I had my trunk open a few random times because of things/other keys in my pocket would hit/hold the button. I resolved this by putting a little case over the smart key. It never happened again.
It really sucked one day when it happened and it rained over night....so I feel your pain.
