Non-Air Suspension Struts/Shocks
- Does anyone have experience with the tuning of the OEM KYB front struts versus the aftermarket KYB front struts and can provide some guidance as far as the ride differences between the two? I can pay the cost of either, I'm more concerned with the driving dynamics of each.
- I also took a look at OEM Lexus suspensions parts and noticed that Lexus changed the part numbers for the front springs from 2007 versus later years - does anyone know how the springs are different from year to year? Did they change the spring rates after 2007? I could easily upgrade the springs to the 2008 or even 2010 part number while doing this work if the later years had a bit of a firmer/sportier spring . . . Also I think all the LS460 F version and the touring all came with the air suspension, but if there is a known OEM spring with a firmer rate that I could use, I'd be open to learning more.
- Another option I would consider could be some type of coil-over. I have no intention of dropping the ride height and I do want to keep a smooth comfortable ride that comes with a large and progressive spring (like the OEM spring), however, I would definitely like to have the option to adjust the firmness of the strut/shock. Are their any solutions that can allow me to keep the OEM springs and install an adjustable shock while keeping OEM ride height? On a different vehicle I used to own, KONI had produced a drop in cartridge that would fit into a gutted OEM strut tube.
I do my own work and have upgraded/replaced shocks/struts on many vehicles over the years. I tend to prefer a softer spring and a shock that offers high rebound dampening with somewhat less compression dampening. I've found that this gives a comfortable non-jarring ride while still enhancing control measurably.
Lastly, I will not seriously consider the E-Bay specials. I know folks have had good success, but for me, I'd rather go with a quality name brand strut with a proven track record since time is a greater priority for me than saving a few bucks.
Thank you in advance.
