What a let down. so angry
Agreed.
My previous LS400 had a mass flow sensor error showing. Dealer traced it back to a bad ECU - $2500 repair. I said no and took it to a buddy of mine. Turned out my O2 sensor rusted out, broke out of its socket, dragged on the blacktop - the sparking blew a fuse. $0.25c later everything was perfect.

Hard to tell. I checked it's history report when I bought it.
One owner (prior to me). regularly serviced at the dealership. no accidents.
25,000 miles on it when I bought it. 36,000 now. Praying extended warranty picks up the repairs and the worst is behind me.

Oh.. man. Lucky.
that's the thing with these cars. It's hard to tell if the dealership is blowing smoke up your *** or not.
I thought this car was going to be solid, low mile. strong engine. I thought I got lucky.... not.
Oh well. Fingers crossed that my extended warranty covers it

ok listen guys these threads are getting a bit tiring....it is really hard to say why your vehicle is the way it is...
1. If you have extended warranty, can you not make sure they are paying for it before you get it fixed?
2. If you have to pay out of pocket.... a. you should not be fixing it at a dealer.. there is no benefit to you to have it done by a dealer.. b. You have no reason to buy new parts... just find a source for quality used parts that come with warranty.
3. Dealers do not know how to fix anything.. beyond some simple cleaning... and calibrations and diagnostics... they just want you to buy parts off them and replace them..
I had a situation recently where i needed my steering rack replaced.. dealer wanted 6000 USD +++ here in Ukraine... I laughed and walked away but going to the dealer is useful to get that diagnostic done.. in the US it might not be such a good idea because that is going on the record.. I would find a good indy shop and stick with them.. the rack could be repaired and refurb I ended up spending about 800.
My advice to you is to get the car re-checked top to bottom by someone you can trust... try to ask recommendations on here for someone in your area.. have it looked at carefully.. fuel systems engine exhaust etc etc and see what they come up with.

Sound like he really just needed new HID bulbs and a battery
Sorry you got a bad one. Ultra Low mile and 20" wheels are a red flag to me. This car wasn't owned by an old lady driving just to the grocery store.
Can you share the vin number with us?

Again on the Actuator... ($2500 is cheap for one of those, regardless...) 10 yrs fromfirst in Service Date. If you have a Lexus that was sold in late 2008 or leftover in '09 you might be in luck. Look up "Lexus Brake actuator L-CP-ZLG-A110-D". The OEM Warranty Enhancement Program pdf spells it all out.
Thank you for the info on that.. However I already tried that.
According to the dealership, my car was "originally" bought in May of 2008, so according to them, the Lexus extended warranty is expired.
I have complained to Customer Service department, for what it's worth (nothing) and pleaded for them to own the problem.
Its their ****ty design or engineering flaw that caused this crappy brake actuator, they even admit to it as well, but they haven't yet been any help to me.

No.. Not the engine computer. The computer in the dash, that controls basically everything on the touchscreen, to my knowledge.
Sorry if I misspoke or confused you. The engine seems to be sound (fingers crossed), aside from the fuel pump issue a few months ago.
The computer in the dash is what failed a few weeks after purchase.

Your LS may be ten years old but it's hard to imagine having so many issues in a short time span. The extended warranty helps but it sounds like you ended up buying a lemon and those history reports can be a joke.
Lexus will absolve themselves even though they KNOW the actuator is engineered to fail. Either going to take massive complaints to the Feds or someone getting killed on the actuator side to force a recall. Don't see either happening. Seems the 10 yr enhancement program was designed specifically to keep complaints to such a low threshold as to make that not happen. Them? Sorry, not sorry.

If it wasnt for cost, dealerships would be the only place I'd take my vehicle. And let's not forget factory training. These guys are trained on factory vehicles, issues and updates. Half these guys can fix these cars in their sleep.
I bought a 2008 LS460 with only 25,000 miles on it. Mint condition, beautiful opalite color. 20" wheels. Nice.
Purchased extended warranty for it.. Good thing I did!!
After 3 weeks of owning it : computer in the dash goes on it's ***. Done! Extended warranty picked up 1,700 dollar fix.
About 6 weeks later : headlights stop working at night. 700.00 dollars later, I have new headlights. Really???? 700.00 ?? wear and tear issue. I PAID for it.. dearly!
About 3 months ago : the fuel pump apparently is leaking and needs to be replaced : Extended warranty costs 700'sh dollars.
About 2 weeks ago : Brake Actuator fails!! : Oooh about 2,500 dollars!! Yep.. still waiting to see if my extended warranty is going to cover it. I'm praying they do, because if they don't, the car will suffer tremendously.
I'm NOT giving Lexus any more money!! F! them!! And their products.. Sorry.. I'm just really not happy right now.
What a piece of garbage this lexus has been. I should of bought a bike or skateboard!!! What a joke!!

When I was in the market for a LS I would get anxious and pissed reading posts like your where owners where having so many expensive problems. Lexus should have done a more thorough job with this car to make sure components last and since it has several expensive issues they really should go further in taking care of their customers. Unfortunately you may be still dealing with the melting dash and control arm issues too. All your issues are not normal or expected for a 10 year car that was supposed to be well designed, especially one with such low mileage.
Something sounds very suspicious about your car though, you seem to be having just about every issue with your LS that they are known for and your mileage seems suspiciously low for how old the car is. You may want to have the car re examined and do some research on your car to make sure it has no rollback, flood, major collision, re build issues. What is your VIN number, there is a Lexus site to look up the history, carfax will also show history. You may also be getting ripped off by taking it to the dealer, get a second opinion or look into fixing things yourself if you can.
Something is up here. Why does it only have 25,000 miles on it?
One thing you learn is super low mileage is not always a good thing. Time wears things, and often sitting for long periods of time is worse for a car than being driven. 25,000 miles on a 10 year old car is 2,500 miles a year, the car sat WAY more than it was driven, and then somebody buys it and starts driving it 15,000 miles a year, its not at all surprising that you're going to have failures. Especially in a high heat/humidity area like Hawaii.
He's actually right. Dealers don't "fix" things, they just replace stuff. Independent mechanics are way better at diagnosing issues and coming up with common sense repairs that are more cost effective on an old car. Thats what he was getting at.
For instance, $700 to fix the headlights...they likely did not need to replace the ballasts, etc.
