Default What is this part ?

Hey all,

Just trying to find a part number for this. It's a rubber part that is on the drive shaft. It's starting to badly crack and it's time to replace. When I was over at my Indy shop, we did a full walk through under the car and this came to light.

Looking for a part number so I can buy it.

Thanks !

It's called a drive shaft flex coupling, but I'm not sure if Lexus sells it separately for the LS460. It looks like it's sold as a complete unit with the drive shaft.

I don't think it's split, it's more how the bushing was made. I think there is 2 splits in that section. The crack you are seeing has a very thin surface. It's hollow behind that I think. It's hard to make out from that picture of the phone. What symptoms do u have?

vibration that I have been chasing down... Very noticeable at 60+mph... not as bad or barely noticeable around 25-40... I was thinking it was the control arms but, looking over the symptoms, it does NOT fit for control arms. As there has been a lot of talk about the drive shaft, the symptoms seem to be fitting here.

The Pic is very high res, it's just this site compresses the heck out of it... looking at it close, it's got a lot of cracking on it... and could be part of the problem.

I would look at this site...

https://www.bestpartstore.co.uk/axle...-coupler/lexus

They seem to have a variety of options.

I don't believe the cracking would cause an imbalance. There would have to be chunks missing. For vibration that comes in goes, that's nearly always tires and/or wheels. In the case of Hyundai / Kia, it's ALWAYS the wheels.

Brand new tires (well about 2-3 months old now), it was doing it before I got the new tires... and had them balanced 2 times to be sure...(I didn't trust the first place)

Back to the vibration. Could you see the condition of the hanger bearing where the two sections of drive shaft join? Is it flexible or rigid mount between the drive shaft and crossmember?

In the world of Mercedes, this is known affectionately as a "guibo".

"Gwee-beau"

They fail at a predictable rate, and yeah, driveline vibration is the tip-off.

Still a challenge to find these, aftermarket and not eBay.

Everything under the car looks solid. I might just spend the $80 and call the dealer to have them give me an estimate to see what is wrong. I wanted to get a trans fluid change and check to make sure the software update..

Tac80 has been cruising around in threads here lately talking about replacing washers in the rear differential mount to change the pinion angle of the driveshaft. See if you can find his post with an exploded parts view, along with part numbers for each of the washers with different thicknesses.
