Default 13 460L thoughts? Found one with low miles - not local

I had a 2010 with air that I gave up due to issues. I currently have a 15 Genesis, but the Lexus mothership is calling me:-)

I’m happy with the Genny but I miss the pure luxury of the LS and am lurking auto tempest and CarGurus for a rare find. I would prefer AWD since I live near Chicago, but willing to go with RWD for the right find. Not too worried about the winter traction as long as I put some decent all-seasons and let the car handle the rest.

so, I found a LWB with a nice color combo and low mileage for just under $32k. What are your thoughts CL?

I thought that one looked familiar. I was considering that car in March when it first hit the lot. It was at the West Palm Beach Lexus dealer then at $34,900. They are part of the auto nation group. It is now at the BMW dealer who is also in that network. The only red flag for me was the damage report on the Carfax. It is a bit nondescript and the sales guy did not know any details.

It had most of the options I was looking for but the light grey interior was not high on my list. I live in WI so a test drive was not in the plan. I almost called lemon squad to do an inspection for me and right about that time I found a very low mileage 2011 RWD SWB, only 700 miles distant, that I bought.

I liked the 90 day warranty Auto Nation offers and I think you could negotiate an extended warranty. The long distance purchase for you is a challenge and I would arrange an independent PPI or Lemon squad. It has been on the lot since March and I think the damage report on Carfax contributed to that. At the current price point, I would give it close consideration, if the damage was mostly cosmetic, the repairs match and you plan on keeping it for a long time. You would probably take a hit on it when you trade or try to resale.

Would you care to share your 2010 issues?
My 2011 has an air system, sport package, and I am curious about your experience. I did purchase a CNA warranty that covers the air suspension and will take me to 100k and 2025.

I had both rear air struts go at the same time and I did not have a warranty. On top of that the arm rests and trim started to crack even though I clean and pamper my cars. Plus the brake actuator started making noise along with the transmission shifting hard at low speeds. I converted the air shocks all around to coil over. The ride was fine but I missed the air ride. All said, the concerns stated above led me to trade it in for the Genny. Be glad that your suspension is covered with CNA!

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll think about this model. I like the price and options but long distance purchases are new to me. Helps to have PPI option but still...

I completely understand the long distance thing. I had never done that either. When I bought mine long distance, I purchased it with a refundable $500 down payment, sight unseen. The risk for me was the cost of the airline ticket to get there and one to get back home if the car was not acceptable to me. I had read on the forum about others who had done similar long distance purchases and in some cases rejected the car and had to get back on the plane. Seemed like a lot of wasted money and time to be disappointed. Made me very nervous about my purchase process.

Now after owning one for a couple weeks I completely understand the draw and the almost un-resistible attraction of the 460. It is worth the risk especially when you find "Your" car.

You may want to figure out a way to obtain a 3rd party PPI, Lemon Squad or perhaps a CL forum member in the area can help out. It may not be as difficult as you think once you set your mind to it. I am glad I risked it. I get a smile on my face every time I get in that 7 year old used car. My wife is even making noises about how it rides better than her 2015 RX. We are going to have to start doing errands together in her car from now on.

I did roughly the same thing... I traded my 2008 LS600hL in on a new 2017 Genesis G90. After a couple of months, I really missed my Lexus, and jumped back into an LS. I'm driving a 2010 LS600hL these days, and don't plan to switch to anything else any time soon!

Good luck on your hunt for a nice used LS!
