Be happy its not an LS400 lol. My LS400 had an intermittent starter fault and a starter replacement on that car is like $1,200 from an independent mechanic, engine has to be raised, its a mess. We just endured the sporadic no starts for a couple years.
I've changed the starter in my 98 and I'll do that any day over changing the starter in the 460. It seems like you have to remove a lot of things underneath the car to get to the starter. While the 400 starter job did seem daunting at first I could get the whole job done in an hour if I had to do it again. The hardest and most time consuming part of the job is getting the 2 starter mounting bolts off. You don't have to lift the engine to remove the starter either.

Got the starter replaced from my so called mechanic. Car is currently running but now it vibrates and is not as smooth idling as before. I took it back twice and the mechanic claims the job was done right and does not know what the problem is. I think they installed something wrong or the motor mount has issues. Anyone has this happen before after a starter install?Do motor mounts go out that comment on these cars? The car was smooth before taking it in. Any insight would be appreciated.

Has nothing to do with that - have him check sway bar endlinks / motor mount as those needed to be messed with during install. Good luck
