Default Brake Malfunction

Hey guys,

I was driving from work today and my dash lit up. The VSC, Brakes, and engine lights came on. I have done a quick search and found that this issue is common but Lexus didnt do a recall. And the potentially malfunctioning part is ridiculously expensive to replace.

I dont have any issues with the brakes, no clicking, no sounds, no dead pedal, no spongy-ness nothing. Drives exactly the same. The car has 117k. I plan on going to the dealership tomorrow.

Can you give me any information.

I’d remove negative battery cable for a couple seconds and then put back on to reset everything. If lights come back then I’d throw a scan tool on obd and read the codes.

Take it to the dealer immediately. There was a recall for the brake actuator but is about to (or already has) expire.

Ive reset the ECU and have driven a couple of hours. No lights. And the car drives fine. Im really not too concerned as i havent read any horror stories of brake failure.

But we'll see.

Glad it worked out - I’m sure your car is fine. Lots of little things can trigger vsc and dash lights. Sounds like your car will be fine

lexus extended the warranty on the brake actuator till end of 2017 unlimited mileage and up to 100k miles after that, did you erase the codes?

Do not erase the codes! Lexus will only allow warranty replacement if you have the codes.

What years, or is this 2007 to current ? I have a "PING" sound coming from my front breaks, I need to have it checked out but, if the brake actuator is still covered I might have the dealer check it out.

Does anyone have any literature or codes for the warrenty extension. I called Lexus corperate and they didnt know.

I did not erase the codes. I just reset the ecu. The lights came back on after 30-40 miles.

Post 47. My dealer knew about it. There is conflicting info about when it will expire 2016 or 2017 for the 100K miles+ cars

Lights should be on, noise or clicking don't qualify

I spoke with Lexus corporate and they explained that the warranty is still good and that the dealership should cover the fix. Once again the warranty is good to the end of this year 2017 after that all bets are off.

I have scheduled an appointment with the dealership to confirm the diagnosis.... This is now my new concern as they have to determine if the issue is indeed the brake actuator; all my research says it is the issue and they car has not had this service done.
I will do my best to document this process if it happens to anyone else in the next 2 months the warranty is good for.

If you read the thread I sent in the first link, you will see that combination of these codes “C1203, C1336, C1345, C1392” points to the actuator. Make a stop by an autozone or advanced auto parts, they will read the code at no charge. Dealer may do an actuator bleeding and reset the codes first to see if this solves the problem. Good luck and keep us posted!

Already did th stop at auto zone. They did not have the proper scan tool. But i only tried the one near my office. I will go to a few others to see if they have a tool as well.
