I was inspecting the area below the rearview mirror for a potential dashcam and noticed the device below. Is that the rain sensor? It looks like a camera and doesn't resemble the rain sensor part when I googled it.
Nope, those are LEDs. If you disable the DRL's in Techstream and then flip your lights to ACC (that's not what it's called, but I'm not sure the terminology and in my head this works :P) only the LEDs come on. This is the way I have it setup and I use the LEDs as my DRLs.
Oh, very interesting! I went outside and turned my DRL off through the vehicle customizations (2013 MY) but don't see the cluster of LEDs illuminate, or maybe it's too bright outside to notice. I have never seen those clusters on in the reflection of the bumper of the car ahead of me, even when my DRL is off. What is the purpose of the LED cluster if we already have DRL?
It was the early iteration of the "Nike swoosh" that's on all Lexus' now. You may have a fuse out or something if they're not coming on.
Thank you, 213374U. Can I bother you for a photo of what it looks on your LS please? My mechanic did a full pre-purchase inspection. He is usually pretty thorough and I would have expected him to point this out if the cluster of bulbs wasn't working.
Here's a pic of them running on mine during daylight hours. Not as noticeable/bright from any angle but directly in front, and definitely not as bright as the swoosh on newer models, but you can tell that they're on. I'm not sure where the fuse would be located for these.

Beautiful LS. That photo really helps, 213374U. I was referring to the cluster of bulbs in the pic below, between the hi/low beams and the swoosh DRL.

How did you get those to function as drl again? I have 2010 LWB with drl disabled, those LEDs come on only when lights are turned on.
I leave the light switch on 'Parking Lights' most of the time, manually turning on headlights when needed. Most driving is during the day though so that switch stays in park. I assume you can wire it into the ignition switch if you wanted to make them come on like DRL's though, but that involves harness modification, not something I want to get into on this car.
This thread sent me down a rabbit hole of looking at the differences in the model years of LS460 headlights, looking at benefits of different bulbs to accent the "nike swoosh" and such, only to find that the 2010-2012 doesn't actually have the swoosh like the 07-09 and 13-17. No LED under the inner high beam. Still wasn't able to figure out what that array of lights (or sensors) is on your pic though.
Actually, does the inner most projector housing ever come on? See light from it under any conditions?
From some of what I read, the inner might be IR for the night-vision feature on some models, the array of sensors could very well be for that or dynamic cruise and other such features. I didn't read anything definitive though.

Fto1 and 2133, what sensor array are you referring to?
The cluster of bulbs between the center projector headlight and the DRL is the turn signal indicator light.
The stack of "sensors" between the outermost projector headlight and the DRL is a set of cooling fins for the LED headlights.
Am I missing something?

You are correct: the innermost projector does not light up, and houses the IR bulb for night-vision that was discontinued in 2014, I think, in US models. It may still function in Europe-bound 460s.
I believe the DRCC transmitter and receiver are in the same housing behind the L on the grille.

Welcome back, comotiger! Haven't seen you on the forums for a while.
Oh my gosh, are the clusters just the turn signals?!?! I got too focused on the turn signals in the side mirrors that it never even dawned on me what else the cluster of bulbs could be. I guess I should have tried my turn signals to see a difference. Thanks, comotiger!
