Dead factory battery replaced with Costco Battery Interstate/#27 Ls460

Group 27 is definitely larger than a 24. About 1/4 inch in length and height. As for CCA, the group 27 is only marginally stronger (about 10 cca), in the case of Interstates.

If 27 is larger, then why did I have trouble fitting my 24? I'm completely baffled and I was diligent to find the right Group Code as I knew I would not be able to hold the batteries side-by-side before buying. Not saying I found the right group code, but back then I thought I did. But now, it seems I was wrong.
And ... if 27 is larger, how did it go in the OP's car so well? The 24 I bought was taller for sure, than the original Panasonic. Could it be that my car being a GL1EF versus (the majority being) a GL5EF?

No idea, but I just checked again on Interstates website. The 27 is actually 3/4" longer (not 1/4). Here's the website with dimensions: http://www.interstatebatteries.com/m...-two-batteries

Seems like there's some conflicting information. This thread has most users replacing batteries with a 24, whereas this thread is 27:

Way to be right up on it! A size 27 gives those cold weather package guys a few more electrical nuggets. I guess my 24 size was right, but doggone Napa for not knowing how provide a 24 of proper height.

I don't remember specifically, but I probably looked at the service manual / owner's manual / or researched it somewhere (because I normally do), and came up with a 24 size. The 24 size I purchased was ever so slightly taller (maybe a quarter inch) than the Panasonic. I had to "customize" the hold-down bracket. I wasn't able to get the battery out of the car first and take it to the store.

Same here. I did a write-up on that "customization." Linked below, post #47:

Nice diagram, Oliver. I shared the same frustrations once I got the new battery in place and realized the fitment was off. What the heck, can't they standardize battery dimensions?!?!

As far as I can tell, our 2013 was still on the original Panasonic battery. IIRC, some owners with frequent battery drain issues were caused by some door switch that kept interior lights on or something to that effect.

I didnt have any issues, maybe I didn't pay that much attention the covers and brackets all lined up fine

I replaced my original battery this morning on my 2012 with a Interstate #27 (purchased at Costco) as a preventive dead battery measure. Spend $90 now to avoid a dead battery and/or electrical problems in the future.
The #27 is a little shorter (side to side) than the original Panasonic battery so I had to remove a battery cable to firewall "plastic connector" that secured the cable to the firewall because the cable was a little short on length. The original battery is heavy and it helped with the lifting to disconnect the passenger side hood strut so I could get in there a little better to lift the battery out. The new battery pops right in and fits well..... You may have to tweak the battery hold down a little to line up with the plastic engine cover.
THIS IS A "EZ TO DO" 15 MINUTE JOB...... That anyone can do.

Good call. I also replace every 3 years on lead acid and 4 - 5 on AGM. First thing I did to my A8 is buy a dipstick (I know..) and a new battery. Have yet to have a battery die on me since starting this practice. So much cheaper then breaking down along the road. Plus on the LS, A8, 7 series, etc when a battery is failing vs sudden failure it can wreak havoc with the electrical systems as well as putting heavier loads on the alternator.

The Everstart Maxx at Walmart is a bit better quality then the Interstate line Costco sells. It's a great lead acid battery. They are both made by Johnson Controls but not the same battery. An AGM is a better way to go and OEM for most large luxury sedans. They are more expensive. I'm kind of surprised Lexus did not put this in at the factory. You should see the size of the battery I put in for my Audi. Biggest battery I have ever purchased. 73lbs 😲.
